So Yao wasn't a superstar either then. He didn't overcome his injuries..he retired because of them.

Or needing microfracture surgery on your knee and deciding to try to play through the pain.

TMAC took a lot of crap that season because his knee limited him greatly and he played poorly. He's not free from blame, he shouldn't have announced his decision to ultimately have the surgery without consulting the Rockets. But his knee was a mess (layup in Milwaukee?) and I wasn't going to question his heart, like most posters on Clutchfans, when he was playing through a tremendous amount of pain.

In retrospect, it wasn't the wisest decision. He should've had the surgery to start with instead of playing through the injury. But he never deserved a lot of the crap that got thrown at him or the stigma of being a weak hearted quitter.

That's ridiculous to say.. do you not remember the series against the lakers where he forced the training staff to let him play after he got injured?? How he stayed with the team and tried to work his way back.. there are some injuries that you can't just get over

Yao Ming was 7'6. That was the reason he couldn't overcome injuries. If he was 7'0 tall he would still be playing with us. I still give a lot of credit to Yao because no other player over 7'5 could dominate the way he did.
