I'd take Webber's career over McGrady's as well. But to say he's on the same level as Hardaway or Divac is a pretty huge overstatement. T-Mac's peak and prime absolutely crush anything Hardaway ever did on the court, and Divac doesn't even belong in the conversation. If Divac wasn't an international player or hadn't played for the Lakers, he wouldn't even be nominated for the Hall. The guy made one All-Star game, never averaged more than 16 points per game and was never considered an elite defender in his era.

So, my first reaction just looking at the numbers was that the first player should be a lock and the second player is borderline at best unless there's something outside of the numbers that justifies him getting in. And after realizing who these two players are (T-Mac and Calvin Murphy), my first reaction was pretty spot on. McGrady was a Hall of Fame caliber player. Calvin wasn't.
You're underrating Ben's peak. Between '01-'07... - he averaged 12.7rebs/1.6stls/2.7blks. In league history, that combination is only rivaled by DRob and Olajuwon. - Two rebounding titles - block title - 4 DPOYs
There is no NBA HOF.... it's the BASKETBALL HOF Go check out Murphy's college stats... it's video game-ish. Add his size, pro career, and FT history, he's easily a HOF.
Good for him but this is the same clown who was trolling us in the offseason but now calls us " his team"
His rebounding numbers are good, not great when compared historically. They were great for that era, but nothing spectacular when compared to other all-time elite rebounding bigs. But if you really want to make a case based on rebounds and blocks, don't look at his per game numbers, look at his advanced numbers. He was 13th in career TRB% and 17th in career BLK%. I think if you look solely at the guy's defensive numbers (his DWS are also pretty stellar), then yeah, his peak was really great. It's when you look at his offensive numbers that make you want to vomit. But it's his defensive prowess that makes him a very serious contender for the Hall. And if I had a vote, he'd get in because of that. I just don't know that he should get in this soon.
I'm aware, but I was talking solely about NBA production. I know that Calvin was a monster in college and is already a member of the Hall of Fame. But if we were to talk solely about NBA production as the qualifier for Hall of Fame candidacy, I don't think Calvin would be deserving. Personally, I've never liked that the NBA doesn't have its own Hall of Fame. It doesn't make any sense to me that guys who were so-so NBA players get in because they put up inflated stats against inferior competition in college or overseas. Can you imagine if football and baseball took the same approach? Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel would be locks for the Hall of Fame.
You don't go in as a member of a particular team. For example Shaq is listed as a HOFer for 6 different teams.
All 16 players that have won multiple scoring titles are in the HOF, except T-Mac (first year eligible), Kobe (not eligible), and Durant (not eligible). T-Mac is all but a sure thing. He'll honestly probably be the headliner this year.
It's weird that players are nominated. I guess that's like a narrowing down... because I assume every player with 5+ year post retirement is eligible. T-Mac had an amazing 10 year run. With some playoff success there would be no argument. One does have to factor in the playoff shortcomings, but I think he's still a lock. Webber was the man on a really really good Kings team (that was screwed out of a Final appearance and likely ring). And he was pretty dominant during that stretch. 20+ ppg, 10+ rpg, 4+ apg for 5 straight years. And he wasn't a liability defensively... sneaky god block #s. With his college career, I think he's a lock. Wallace should and I think will get in. I don't really like comparing him to Dennis Rodman. Wallace's peaks was 2000-2008. Which happens to coincide with a pretty crappy period of NBA history. Yes, Shaq was still dominating, and yes, Duncan was there, and KG, and Dirk. But we're not talking about bigs of prior eras. Nor, with the exception of Dirk, were we talking about some of today's bigs that are just much better at taking you outside and shooting 3's. But I can't really fault him for the era he played. He'd still be an amazing defender in any era, if not quite as great as he seems. Hardaway has diminished as we get farther and farther away form his playing days, but that was a bad dude on the court in his prime. Which is why he's still 15th all time in assists, with a career 8.2 apg, while also being a great scorer. And solid rebounder for a PG (not Westbrook, but for normal PGs). Unfortunately for him, while I think you could make a persuasive argument that for the less picky basketball HOF Hardaway could get in, you can also and equally make an argument against him. He was always really really good, but not the best in the league. Wasn't the best pure scorer on his team. Wasn't the best pure passer in the league. Etc. He's a pass. Divac... no argument here. Really really solid player for a lot of years, but not a HOF. Heck, he was only an all-star once. Muggsy... fun to have him on the list to reminisce... but clearly not a HOFer.
I think T-Mac (headliner), Chris Webber, and Tim Crossover Hardaway will be the 3 that get in this year. Ben Wallace gets in 2018.
How hilarious would it be if T-Mac got knocked out in the first round of voting for this? Worth it just for the comedy.
At his peak you could make a case he was the best player in the league. The NBA Hof is the easiest one to make so he should be in there.
Tmac's reaction after learning he was nominated and Kareem offers his opinion. Its at the beginning of the video and rest of it is for the other nominees...
Tracy McGrady: 7-time all-star, 7-time all-nba team Chris Webber: 5-time all-star, 5-time all-nba team Try again.
Tinman is a dunce. Kareem says he's in, then he's in. Tmac loves Houston and calls them "my rockets." We should be glad we have two hall of fame players inducted (likely) in a couple years in Mac and Yao.
