https://taskandpurpose.com/russian-...S_xpxNUDzQBof49VsHJpp8l3ScZrs4ihbsYh9J-emP-6Y VIDEO: The US, Turkey, and Russia's delicate dance in Syria A video shows the inside of a U.S. military camp overtaken by Russian mercenaries working with Syrian forces, shortly after American troops abandoned it. U.S. forces left the Manbij camp in northern Syria early Tuesday following an October 6 directive from President Donald Trump to leave a coalition with the Syrian Defense Forces (SDF) fighting ISIS. A spokesman for the U.S. operation confirmed the departure on Tuesday. The U.S. decision to pull out gave Turkish forces the green light to invade Syria and drive out the SDF, which contains Kurdish fighters. Turkey considers the Kurds terrorists and has long vowed to destroy them. Over the weekend the SDF joined a pact with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad's government to fight the Turkish offensive. Here's a video of the abandoned camp: The man in the video was identified by Times of London reporter Tom Parfitt as Russian war correspondent Oleg Blokhin, known to be following the Wagner Group in northeastern Syria. U.S. troops formerly based at the camp willingly left it to Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group, a Russian private military company who support the Syrian military operation, a SDF official near Manbij told Business Insider's Mitch Prothero. ================== Interesting Rocket River
If Bill Kristol disagrees with you, you are probably on the right side of history. This asshat and his neocon buddies are the reason we are in this mess in the first place.
Sorry about the source on this. Heard this at other places too. Don't trust it 100% but an interesting development if true. https://morningstaronline.co.uk/art...ending-key-kurdish-cities-from-turkey-advance US troops block Syrian army from defending key Kurdish cities from Turkey's advance https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/us-military-blocks-syrian-armys-entry-into-border-city-video/ US military blocks Syrian Army’s entry into border city: video
So NewRoxFan, you seem to be spamming this thread with every anti-trump tweet regarding Syria. I'm not going to read the whole thread. What is your take? Are you pro war in Syria? Anti-Trump? or both?
A pretty simplistic view of a complex issue. I am definitely anti-trump. I am anti-war. So that directly answers your questions. My take? We need to maintain a presence in the Middle East. We need to support our allies in the area. Not doing both creates an environment where war will exist and grow. We are already seeing that. btw, the troops didn't come home. Rather, we simply built up our presence in another area (Saudi Arabia). One can question why trump made these moves. Also, there is an easy way to avoid seeing my posts... click on my name, choose "ignore". That way you will simply see trump's messaging.
Do you happen to know what the US troops were doing in the Kurd held regions? Have you heard of a concept called " Show of force"? That is what their responsibility was. They weren't fighting a war. Hardly any of the US troops there were seeing any direct combat. They did not have a combat mission there. They were placed there so Turkey and the Syrian Assad Regime would limit attacks in that region because they were deathly afraid of harming US troops. US presence in that region was actually what prevented all out war. As soon as they leave, the fear that Turkey had in bombing the region to oblivion was removed. They only held back because they weren't going to risk attacking US personel.
If that presence is on Syria's land, it means perpetual war, Afghanistan style, because Syria do not like to be invaded by a foreign army who bombed their cities and allied with Turks, ISIS and Kurds. Or you need a total invasion, the Iraq style, to have a total presence in that country. That is another war. Also if your presence is to support your allies, who are in the war...........That means you are involved in the same war actively. Maintaining a presence without invitation in a foreign country for your own agenda is a war crime. I just do not see the need of committing MORE war crimes.
Do you even understand what US troops were doing in the region? Their task was akin to a UN peacekeeper troop deployment. They were not involved in combat and were there as a show of force to prevent Turkey and the Assad regime from bombing the region they were in. Their presence PREVENTED war.
You keep acting like Syria is governed by a beloved leader... the people revolted against Assad and they were brutally put down and used chemical weapons against them. Syria is geopolitical chess piece for Russia’s military under the Russian/Iran alliance, both counties that are adversaries. The bottomline, we had a small, cost effective group there to prevent exactly what is happening. Clearly war crimes will be committed regardless, why also give up a strategic goal for nothing in return? And anyone stupid enough to think this move gets out of the Middle East, I got some beachfront property to sell you in Arizona. Educated yourself China fan, if you are even allowed to.
First, the war has been going on for years. That's not 'prevented'.......it is not true no matter how you feel the need of capitalizing the word 'prevented'. What 'UN peace keeper' would bomb Syria airports?? Are you saying USA were not directly involved in the combat.. but the missiles did? USA presence was to destabilize the region and provide protections to the rebellion forces. The US presence PREVENTED the war from being over.
