To the board, does anyone live here.. has anyone visited here? I know there was a thread a while back on it. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Haven't been there, but Wikipedia says: "With a rate of 91 violent crimes per 1,000 people, Sunnyside is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the United States." Also this: "The community's slogan is "Sunnyside Pride." Sunnyside included a landfill, an adjacent garbage incinerator, and several salvage yards; the incinerator has closed." Sounds.... nice.
It depends on your perspective. It's one the poorest neighborhoods in Houston, and the most dangerous, but globally, it's probably in the top 10% of wealth.
Sunnyside Rated One of Nation's Most Dangerous Neighborhoods -------------------- From wiki: In 2010 a zip code including much of the Sunnyside area had 118 registered sex offenders; it has the highest concentration of sex offenders of any zip code without facilities designed to house registered sex offenders. While some other Houston areas have higher concentrations of sex offenders than Sunnyside, those areas have specific facilities housing sex offenders. Travis McGee, the president of the Sunnyside Civic Association, said that the Sunnyside area was "dumping field for anything that’s negative" and that he felt fear for area children --------------------------- Sounds nice. Good luck OP.
A friend of mine got held up at gunpoint at a red light, the guy got in the car, asked for a ride, then got out.
article below on the number of ex-prison inmates who now reside in Sunnyside. So it's probably a great place to settle down and raise a family. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/23/us/23mapping.html
The only way to hitchhike these days. You think you're gonna get a ride just by holding out your arm and pointing your thumb up??
Grew up in Sunnyside just off Reed Rd. No, it's not safe if you've never lived in the hood before and are not acclimated to the things you have to look out for. Otherwise, the good times I had there far outnumber the bad.
