Haven't there be an Up tick in Autism?
Is it just being reported more [i.e. In the past folx were Forrrest Gumping it]
    Or
Are more recessive genes coming forth?
    or
    Is it environmental?

Increased reporting and awareness is definitely a factor, but there may be other factors (toxins in the environment) as well. However, there is absolutely no documented evidence of a causal link between vaccines and autism.

So . . .remove the reporting and awareness increments from the argument
That leaves a portion of the increase that has a unknown origin.

So . . .Technically we cannot dismiss vaccines . . . I am not say that it is either.
    We obviously need more testing . . . . ..

I personally lean to more toxin in our air, food and things we place on our bodies from perfumes to deodorants etc.
Americans seem to have the most chemicals in our system and on us than anywhere in the world. We consumer the most chemically treated and biologically manipulated foods. It would not surprise me if in so called resolving one problem [not enough yeild on crops] it opens us up to other issues [from new resistent pests to new cancers and diseases]

Mercury does cause birth defects. But to say vaccines cause autism is jumping the gun a bit.

Yes, they are. Burden of proof is on you. Why do you think that they're any more dangerous than normal foods? Have you taken a look at a banana or a tomato from 100 to 200 years ago? They look nothing like they did today. With genetics, we can create better foods and feed more people than ever before, provided people who wank off to nature get out of the way of science.

Don't trust those mean old scientists who produce widely distributed papers articles and journals to back up what they say! Who the hell do they think they are, trying to wave their evidence in our faces, stupid scientists!

If you're interested, I can link to a few articles about genetically modified food and particularly Prop 37 in California. My lefty friends out here are always arguing with me about it.

But it boils down to this:
    1. We have been "genetically modifying" food for thousands of years through selective breeding. Truth. The techniques have changed over time in accomplishing the search for the best traits in a crop, but it's the same idea since agriculture started for humans.

    2. Tons of studies have shown absolutely nothing harmful in the newer techniques to genetically modify crops. And think about it this way: there are many ways that we are exposed to harmful things in food (plastic bottles, for instance), but we're going to limit or label GMO instead, just because it's like a "black cat," a superstition?

It's just not logical, but people say "I just want to know what's in my food!" And I agree with that, but I disagree with propagating an unjust fear of "genetically modified" food, and I say that for the reasons above.

This article is a very good read for people interested in this debate, if it is even considered that.
