Well, so much for Hillary Clinton being a mortal lock to win the Democratic nomination. It appears that Bernie Sanders may be a real factor in this race, with a showing in the Wisconsin Straw Poll of 41%, compared to Hillary Clinton's 49%. And Bernie did not even show up. Of course most of us remember how Hillary was regarded as an absolute sure thing to win the 2008 primaries at this stage of the contest. LOL. Well, at least she will see it coming this time around. It seems to me that admitting you are a socialist in this country has historically being a lot like admitting you are a homosexual. The homosexuals are increasingly coming "out of the closet". Perhaps this election cycle is when all of the closet socialists come out to publicly embrace their internal Marx. The big difference is there are probably a lot more closet socialists than there are closet homosexuals (estimated at 2.5%-3.5%). As a conservative, I think this is great. If Bernie pulls an Obama and rallies the closet socialists across the country to win the Democratic nomination, that is a match-up that any Republican candidate will be elatedly thankful for. Or, as an alternative, if Hillary beats Bernie by going full-commie, that is also an attractive scenario for Republicans moving into the general election.
Michelle Bachmann agrees that straw polls are great indicators of popularity. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/michele-bachmann-wins-iowa-straw-poll/
So do you believe that among Democrats there is truly less sincere, heartfelt support for Bernie Sanders than there is for Hillary Clinton? Really?
I'm not sure the relevance of "sincere, heartfelt" support. I think a lot of people want to like the idea of the ideological purity of Bernie Sanders. Just like GOP primary voters liked the idea of the ideological purity of Michelle Bachmann. At the end of the day, they will vote for Hillary Clinton.
So it sounds like you are basically saying that you support Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. Is that correct?
Sanders nomination would guarantee a Republican is president in 2016. There is absolutely no way America would vote for a 73 year old, socialist Jew. And by the way I'm Jewish myself...I just don't believe for a second America would ever vote a Jewish man into the White House.
If you could read, you'd realize I actually said nothing about my own preferences. To make it very simple: I was simply pointing out the extraordinary stupidity of your original post. You have a history of dumb Presidential predictions, though, so this shouldn't be terribly surprising. That said, yes, absolutely. Bernie Sanders, like Elizabeth Warren, are great in their roles within the party (or in Sanders' case, not even within the party, but as a voice for many people often left without one). But neither would be good Presidents.
No. According to the media and the "experts," Hillary Clinton was regarded as an absolute mortal lock to win the Democratic nomination in 2008, while Rudy Giuliani was similarly regarded as having all but cinched a win in the Republican contest for 2008. I remember watching political coverage on CNN moving through the summer and into the fall of 2007, and saw some of the television talking heads on that channel rolling their eyes in apparent dismay that they were even still bothering to conduct the 2008 primaries, as it was so obvious to them that these races were sown up and in the bag. As is so often the case, the extent of these so-called "experts" ignorance was almost beyond the ability to exaggerate. Certainly if anyone had somehow clairvoyantly presented the actual outcome and course of events of the 2008 presidential race in June 2007, virtually no one would have believed them. Nevertheless, as we all know now, they were wrong on both counts.
This country voted a Black man with questions about his birth certificate into office... Just saying.
