    Great insight!

I will say this again. We are #1 in scoring. We don't need a PF who can scoring 12-14 PPG; we need an elite paint defender and shot blocker PF who can make us contend. Defense wins championships and it's won in the paint.

    Millsap is not it!

Based on the personality of current team , in order to make into the 2nd run playoff, need players like Zach Randolph, Kevin Garnett, the nasity mean old dog type. Hard to get..:confused:

Dude, you either not reading or "listening" to what the guy is saying. The whole stipulation of his trade hinges on the flexibility that acquiring Millsap mid season would bring. That's fine if you don't like Millsap or you value Patterson and Morris that high. BUT you seem to be missing the big picture.

Personally I think it is a good risk/reward. Millsap looks the part to be a Morey type of player that is currently undervalued in my opinion. Unloading 2 PFs for 1 PFs sounds good to me if its what it takes. Can create future flexibility for 2015. Quite frankly there is real reason to be optimistic about this team, but I can't see Morey staying pat and not constantly try to improve the team or assets incrementally. Right now we have a team full of rookies and are low on experience overall so I think Morey will look to package a few of the rookies for a better asset and it would free up another spot.

Repped. This is what I was trying to convey.

Yep, had to rep for a good, lengthy debate even though we're not on the same page.

It would be a historical moment when we acquire Paul Millsap from the Jazzholes. As a true rocket fan, I will TRY to paint him red as much as I can. I hope.

Damn, I can't do it. I still hate the Jazz.

You will be waiting an eternity if you have a checklist that needs to be met to acquire a player. Millsap is a high motor player who does just about every good but doesn't one thing great. He isn't a superstar and has a ceiling of an all star. He would be a good (not great) defender, has above average passing and handles for a "big", and has a post and mid range game. He would fit well into this team.

Yes, I am a complete and utter moron for having advanced stats that show Millsap is better than Aldridge is almost every facet of the game for their career AND this season, where Millsap is having a "down year".

In my post, I stated how we can sign and trade Millsap for a better player while having the option to retain him. Being in contender status does not have anything to do with aquiring Millsap. Millsap is another option to add to the flexibility that we will have after the season.

We are #1 in scoring because of our pace. Our offensive efficiency is ranked around 7-10, which is still good, but not great. We are also this way because our 4s are good offensive players that can stretch the floor. Millsap can do this as well. If we get a paint defender, this would clog up the paint for Lin/Harden. Remember, Asik is already clogging up the paint, so if you get another guy like that, you're lowering the value of Harden and Lin.

Very, very good podcast. It basically states that Millsap was a 11 win player, and is on pace to be a 9 win player this year. In comparison, he stated that a starter should be a 4-5 win player and a 10 win player is at all-star level. Basically, Millsap is at least a borderline all-star level player.

    Medicine N Music:

You are banging your head against the wall here. You are trying to reason with a bunch of unreasonable people. Advanced statistics reveal that Paul Millsap is not only a superior basketball player to LaMarcus Aldridge but is, in fact, a "star." If you are one of the 15-20 best players in the league, and advanced statistics say that he (Millsap) is, if I'm not mistaken, you're a star, and you're Daryl Morey's favorite kind of star: an undervalued star! Morey loves exploiting those inefficiencies!

This is the United States. A big percentage of the population simply does not believe in science. A big percentage of the population simply does not require evidence in order to support a particular belief, or will ignore evidence that supports a belief that doesn't seem right to their (irrational) mind. A big percentage of the population believes in angels, actual angels! A big percentage of the population believes in creationism. A big percentage of the population rejects the overwhelming, indisputable evidence that supports the notion that global warming is a) real and b) man-made. A big percentage of the population believes that Barack Obama is a "socialist." I could keep going here. You see my point.

In short, stop banging your head against the wall. Some of us (e.g., myself) realize that Paul Millsap is extremely good, extremely undervalued, and would be an excellent pickup, either this summer or during the season. Others insist on a LaMarcus Aldridge, despite the facts that a) he is inferior to Millsap and b) he is not available, particularly with Portland playing as well as they are. Still others are living in a fantasy world and holding out for Kevin Love, or, even more ridiculous, Lebron James (!). Ignore the naysayers; your assessment is spot on.

My proposed in-season Paul Millsap trade isn't far off from yours, and is a three-teamer:

    Patrick Patterson, Donatas Motiejunas, Richard Hamilton (expiring contract), and the Bulls' 2013 first round pick (lottery-protected) to Utah;
    Kevin Murphy to Chicago;
Paul Millsap and Jamaal Tinsley (expiring contract) to Houston

In other words, Utah would basically be making two trades here, simultaenously: a) the anticipated Hamilton-first round pick for (basically) nothing deal that allows Chicago to dodge the 2012-13 luxury tax, and b) the prospects and picks-for-Millsap deal that nets the Jazz something useful for Millsap, which beats the hell out of watching him sign elsewhere this summer, which nets them nothing for Millsap.

Utah would be replacing Patterson in the rotation with Millsap (massive upgrade), and Marcus Morris would be replacing Patterson as the backup PF (a wash, at worst, plus, Morris appears to have more "upside" than Patterson, who is likely a finished product at nearly 24 years old), so you aren't going to miss Patterson here, at all. And you aren't going to miss Motiejunas, who is stuck in the developmental league and will likely stay stuck in the developmental league in 2013-14, as well.

One additional point that I'd like to make: I do disagree strongly with your assertion that Paul Millsap is going to be interested in signing a two-year deal. That strikes me as some serious wishful thinking right there. He is going to want at least four years. I will be very surprised if he doesn't get four years. What I think Houston will want to do here, however, is similar to what Oklahoma City did when it wanted to extend Nick Collison and it had a massive amount of cap space to play around with. I think Daryl Morey will want to give Millsap a large amount of money in Year One (2013-14) of his salary, something like $14 mil, and then pay him less per season for Years 2-4, something like $8.7 mil/year. That would be a four year, $40 mil contract, which is probably about what Millsap will fetch on the open market. Houston can pay him more in Year One, though, which would make their offer the best offer on the table. This is a great use of Houston's excess cap space this summer.

I don't think creating cap space for the summer of 2015 is a priority for Houston. I think the goal is to put together the best Moneyball team possible, as soon as possible.

He can defend; he can shoot; he can do post move; he can run the floor; he can catch the ball; and he is hard working player. I don't see how he will hurt us. Additionally, he probably won't cost us a max contract.

At this point we have already exceeded our expectations as a young team. So i assume morey is treating our success like free money, and is just gonna sit and watch our team develop.

IMO signing or trading for a good but not great player like milsap/Jefferson/smith won't really help us in the long run. Making the playoffs should add valuable experience to our young bigs and next year hopefully the ones we drafted will begin to contribute. Now if an opportunity arises like the james harden deal i'm sure daryl is prepared with a package.

I meant Houston, not Utah. Houston would be making two trades, simultaneously. Houston would be replacing Patterson with Millsap, etc.

Good post buddy; enjoyed the "This is the United States" portion haha. I actually agree to the fact that getting Millsap to agree to a 2 year contract will be extremely difficult. This is why I stated that it would have to be at premium salary. If your value of Millsap is $10 per year, we can maybe offer him a 2 year, $26 million deal, which may work out for both sides if the Rockets want that flexibility in 2015. However, if their assessment of this cap space in 2015 is not that important, then they will indeed offer him more. We just have so many options here, and our position is so much better than a year ago.

Kevin Love would make sense the most;however, his hand is injury prone lol. That being said, Josh Smith is alright i don't know how he would fit with the team though, and Millsap i don't remember watching him play so i have no comment on that. Best thing in my opinion instead of drafting another undersized powerforward is to wait to see if any of our young players develop into something decent, if not allstar/superstar.

Maybe a more pertinent comparison is Josh Smith vs. Milsap

My previous thread on Millsap potentially being Morey's FA target http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=229804&highlight=morey+free+agent+millsap

Main difference to this thread ... I'd prefer him as a FA signing as opposed to trade. I also like Rogower's front-loaded contract scenario as posted here, which will help us sign Parsons when his 4yr contract is over.

Warning on my thread though ... BeeBeard goes berserk in an unimaginably worse way there ... if you read it, you'll understand what I mean ;)

Aldridge is better by far. Did anyone factor in the level of attention each player demands when on the court? I doubt Millsap gets nearly as many double teams as Aldridge. Aldridge still churns out these stats despite the level of attention other teams give him.

Medicine N Music: I sympathize with you having to respond to BeeBeard (like I did in my Millsap thread), who obviously doesn't read other people's posts with any level of reading comprehension, keeps asking for things already posted, and keeps attacking posts based on his imagination of what he thinks was written.

In my other thread ... I gave it a miss because it's not worth it.

On the other hand ... BeeBeard really isn't the worst poster here. Sometime he can post things of value, which makes me still hesitant to put him on the ignore list.

    Conundrum ...
