so you feel better after insulting me? Vole's existence as a rocket has been forgettable that I could barely remember his surname accurately

As a second star, I don't think Milsap fits the bill. But as an asset, he could work. A package of him and Asik could be hard to turn down for a lot of GMs.

I would do this trade in heartbeat, but I trouble seeing Utah trading a starter for 2 player bench players.

They have Gordon Hayward & Marvin Williams at SF. From what I've seen I like Hayward and he shooting 3pt at 38% this year.

Currently, Randy Foye and Jamaal Tinsley is starting backcourt.
I not going mention any trade, but Utah hurting most at Guard position. I think Utah need a PG the most with Mo Williams out since Dec 22.

I'm not sure if Utah will want "too much". They can either lose him for nothing in the summer or sign and trade him, which puts more salary on their books. Most teams with cap space are not in position to compete, so I'm not sure if adding Millsap makes sense for them, so there's not that much leverage and this is why I think we can have him at a discount.

Again, Jefferson is the main low post player, so this is not clear. By Jefferson being the post option, Millsap usually get his points on broken plays, put backs, or kick outs. Millsap can definitely create his own shots though. I can even remember back in the day when he was matched up with Landry and out-played him.

    Slows the game down IMO.

    Need a stretch 4.

Ryan Anderson or Kevin Love... Tho neither will happen.

    Prefer Aldridge tho.

As a die hard Rockets fan living in Utah, let me tell you about Millsap.

His 3 point shooting has gotten better every year. He is actually a pretty good 3 pt shooter although in the Utah offense they play him beneath the 3pt line mostly, setting screens, working the baseline, hanging around for offensive boards.

He would be at least as good as PPatt in terms of 3 point shooting.

He is a CLUTCH player, he has hit a lot of big shots late in games.

He is a winning player, plays hard, no attitude, tough nosed kinda guy.

He is basically a cross between Mario Elie and Carl Landry. Mario Elie because he has kind of an ugly jumper but he can hit big shots and 3's and does the Junkyard Dog work, and Landry because he quietly goes about his business and is more effective and valued than stats would show.

Millsap is not a superstar, but he could be an all star type player on a team that wins 50+ games.

He is a very good defender and smart team player.

He is definitely on a different level than Patterson and Morris. Plus he steals the ball a lot for a 4, has quick hands, and runs the floor very well. He excelled running alongside DWill for several seasons.

If I were to rank Patterson and Morris on a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of being NBA PF's I would rank them the same, a 6. I would rate Millsap as an 8.

This is how I would break down NBA PF's, in general

    10s
    Dirk (when healthy)
    Duncan

    9s
    Love
    Josh Smith
    Zach Randolph
    Ibaka
    Griffin

    8s
    Millsap
    Aldridge
    David Lee
    Faried
    Bosh
    Gason (usually)
    KG

    7s
    Boozer
    Ryan Anderson
    David West
    Scola

    6s
    Patterson
    Morris
    Hickson
    Landry

I put Millsap in the 8 range and I definitely like him better than Aldridge on the Rockets.

For all you Rockets fans suggesting Aldridge, do you realize that the Rockets strategy is basically to shoot ZERO long 2's, and focus on layups and 3's?

All Aldridge shoots is long 2s.

Millsap would be a very good pickup for us, and because of the savings we have on Parsons contract, we would still have money left over to do a S&T and ship him out over the summer or even resign him and sign another good player.

Morey is not going to settle for anything less than all-star big man and neither is Leslie. We'll probably wait till the summer unless an elite guy becomes available. I don't think even if Morey wants Millsap, he can sell it to Alexander.

If given a 4-5 year contract I'd say about $10 million per year, just because the market probably won't be too hot for him. Most of the big money is going to Jefferson or Smith.

However, I'd give him a 2 year $24 million deal and see if he bites. As I stated in my post, this gives us maximum flexibility for 2015.

Not likely. Alridge would be even more of a jump shooter since Jefferson will occupy the paint.

If we sign Millsap in FA, we don't have the option to package him for a Howard or Love...which defeats my purpose of writing my original post on the advantages of getting Millsap mid season.

Yes if you want to be a pretender...He's nice but not at the level to be put in the same boat of Harden as part of 'big x', but this summer his new contract would be at that level(very likely to be near max multi year deal).

Our pf's are young and improving every month, so it's not wise to be tied with second tier star with near max money. For that matter, it's not easy to sign and trade him if he doesn't perform well post trade.

Besides, we are looking for or developing stretch fours.

Unless the Rockets are good enough to contend this year(extremely unlikely), there is absolutely nothing to be gained by trading for Millsap at the deadline. The only reason you would do so is to have someone's birds rights. Utah will not re-sign Millsap, so it's pointless in this regards. Even his trade value will not equal to whatever the Rockets need to trade for him in the first place. As for Millsap vs Aldridge, I will trust the Rockets brain trust on that one.

Personally, I still want a perimeter guy because I think two of Morris/PPat/Jones/DMo, whoever don't get traded, are good enough to be bigs along with Asik/Smith. The ones that fit and potentially available: Josh Smith(can defend multiple positions and versatile), Iguodala(who likely activates his ETO), and Granger(whom the Pacers likely want to dump). A pure PF, especially an undersized one, IMO is not worth it. The Rockets simply like to dictate matchups too much to make themselves so inflexible at the position.

Utah still fighting for playoff spot - I don't see them helping another Western team for pieces that don't really help them get closer to the playoffs.

Wouldn't Millsap for Jose Calderon (expiring contract also) make most sense for both teams? He is available for trades I sure there will be other suitors .

Not true. Morey's strategy is being in the best position to aquire another star. By getting Millsap, we can potentially package Asik + Millsap + other assets to aquire that star. Asik and Millsap are both good pieces that would be hard to turn down if we packaged them with our other youngsters.

Millsap IS a stretch four. Look at what the Utah poster's response. He has gotten better at shooting 3s every year and he'll develop his shot like Patterson.

Same argument given above for the first part. Millsap will not cost close to max money if given a long term deal. Look at how many teams are in position to sign him next summer. If given a short 2 year deal at say, $12 million per year, he becomes an expiring next year and will not affect our 2015 cap room. He will also be easy to trade if he does sign for a shorter deal.

Well my question is why do we have to make a move at the deadline, as opposed to waiting and doing your move in the summer? Everyone's trade value increases during the deadline, and it flatlines during the summer.

The Rockets aren't in any hurry to do anything as other people have said this is already the youngest team in the league, we can afford to wait. While it is true that Millsap can be flipped for a trade, if we just wait it out maybe we can get somebody better for much cheaper, maybe we can convince DH to go here for free and sign him with just capspace, you never know.

Unless a really killer deal comes along I'd really just wait for that max capspace.

Here are the player ratings on a per possession basis over the last 2+ seasons according to xRAPM (only considering players playing > 10000 total possessions). Both Millsap and Aldridge do pretty well, though these ratings like Millsap a bit more.

Wait, did you read my post?

You don't think it's an advantage to be able to package Millsap + Asik for a better player? What about potentially NOT including Parsons in a future deal? You also don't think it's an advantage to take a look at how well he plays with us before we offer him a deal?

Les Alexander would be wildcard. Given our youth, I would let the play out year with current rotations. But if we are flirting with losing playoff sport, he might demand Morey make a move.
