Just got my tickets this morning straight from the Nats website...with a 50% off coupon. Strasburg’s return to Nationals is on the schedule A little more than a year after he had Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ligament in his elbow, Stephen Strasburg(notes) is just about set to return to the major leagues. The Washington Nationals announced on Tuesday that Strasburg will come back to the majors on Sept. 6, barring any problems in his final minor league rehab start on Thursday or in a side session on Saturday. Strasburg will return against the Los Angeles Dodgers, likely reassuming his role as one of the biggest attractions in baseball. Strasburg routinely pitched in front of sellout crowds last year and will likely do so again at Nationals Park on Tuesday. If he stays on an every-fifth-day schedule, his first three starts back in the majors should all will come at home. From there, he could return to Philadelphia, where he tore his ligament last year, for a start on Sept. 21 before finishing the year in Florida. The Nationals will be cautious with Strasburg, limiting him to four innings or 60 pitches, manager Davey Johnson told reporters in Atlanta on Tuesday. But the Nationals will have their 23-year-old ace back, and with it, they should have plenty of people packing the seats to get a glimpse of him.
There's one month left and the Nats are out of the chase. This seems like a high risk situation. Why not just let him continue to get stronger in the offseason? I mean, barely one year after Tommy John surgery?
I assume he will be on a pretty strict pitch count limit, so he may only go 5 innings or so. Still, I can see why folks would buy a ticket to watch him pitch for 5 innings.
