Another big week of earnings coming up. I love that MSFT pulled back last week...they should report a big number. VZ has sold off in the past after reporting but it’s usually a buy the dip opportunity. It’s boring but any pullback means a nearly 4.5 to 5% dividend.
constructed a Bullish put spread on MSFT for $2.10 credit, 21 Aug expiration, which is days before the next X-Div, defining my max risk to be $2.90 bto 200 PUT sto 205 PUT
Do you agree with this? Technical Trends The technical chart may be starting to reflect some of that nervousness because the shares have been gradually trending lower since peaking around July 9. The stock has also formed a bearish pattern, known as a bump and run. It would indicate that the stock continues to trend lower towards an uptrend at $195, a decline of about 4% from its price on July 17 of roughly $203. Should that uptrend break, the shares could fall even lower to its next level of support at $187, a drop of about 8%. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kramer...nto-earnings-in-almost-20-years/#41c6ca11b1d4

^Reports from Nikkei that Sony boosted PS5 production numbers from 6milion units to 9 million units. For PS4, each unit was worth 100 to AMD's revenue for the CPU/GPU; so that's a potential 300mil revenue increase in 2020, but I'm not sure which quarter this increase gets accounted in. https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Technology/Facebook-and-Sony-ramp-up-output-of-gaming-devices Other catalysts which may not affect 2Q earnings but impact subsequent guidance: "Pro" line of APUs with additional security features for OEM laptops targeted at companies (i.e. thinkpads) are coming soon as well as "pro" line of workstation/threadripper CPUs; faster than dual xeon. edit: I think the biz laptops could be a game changer that finally makes a dent in laptop market share for AMD. I work in an org with over 6k staff, half of us are on thinkpads half on dell. lenovo has already announced amd versions of the t-14, and they are cheaper, faster, cooler temp and longer battery life than the intel model. Any IT department that hasn't been sleeping will make the switch.
Looks like the run-up from mid-week took the punch out of the news. That, and it was kind of expected, I guess. Bummer.
Good day for tech, in general, especially the usual high-flyers from the past few months, from the looks of it. I wonder if the shift away to "value" was that temporary.

Do you find technical works on ETFs? I thought the ETF would more or less track the NAV of the underlying stocks, and the underlying basket of stocks could be trending in different directions with different market psychology being applied to each one.
for those w long position, enjoy this bull run, it's not a bad idea to buy cheap PUT insurance on your longs the vix has been declining, PUTs are relatively cheap
