His job is to get the ratings high. In fact, all of media's job is to get the ratings high, that is how they get paid. Ratings = High = Advertisers paying for slots. People watching actually care about the sport. ESPN doesn't care about the sport, its just a product to sell to get money. If everyone knew this, they would understand why 90% of what they hear is either a lie or a gross exaggeration of reality. Stephen A. Smith is just there to light up the watcher. Getting you mad is what he wants. Insults and trash sell advertising which is sick and demented and why I don't watch much T.V.

lol the Knicks are better but they could've had Kidd and Felton and Lin all together. Dumbas SAS thinks felton was brought into distribute the ball. That tub of lard was brought in to just shot jack. I guess it boils down to he and most of the other ESPN guys having little to know value as journalists/analysts. They literally get paid to have entertaining takes rather than add anything that the average joe can't figure out on their own.
