We need size and players that can actually defend. I love Nash's game, but acquiring him would be superfluous. We need a good 3 and some size at the C more than we need an upgrade at point, unless that point can defend.

Rockets have gone offensive minded but their team offense is still poor in efficiency and has been for a very long time now. Wherever Nash goes those teams always seem to be at the top in that regard.

Getting Nash would instantly make us a top 5 (we're about 10 right now). Wouldn't hurt the defense any more as our back court is about as bad as it can be. It would be a very good trade on the short term.

More so than efficiency, Nash is able to win you ball games. He's got better court vision and passing skills than Ish Smith/Kyle Lowry while at the same time shooting better than Aaron Brooks. He knows how to control the offense and tempo of a game, something I've felt that Brooks has never grasped.

Before we move any further here with how great we would be with Nash, how about we speculate what REALISTIC trade package is going to get him here.

A move to sell tickets, and nothing more. Nash in his prime with a STACKED team couldn't get it done, what's different now?

Turning Hill into Stoudemire? Complete joke. Why hasn't Lopez turned into Amare yet? Why haven't Warrick or Childress turned into Marion? Think people.

We don't know how large or long contacts will be until after the CBA.

And if we did resign him he is still a young quality player we can trade later for a higher draft pick or a younger star.

We could compete for this season and next season only, his contract extension ends after next year (2011-2012). And if you think Nash will give us enough to compete for a championship I will have to agree to disagree with you. We would need to have another trade or move to bring in a defensive force to help us beat the balance elite teams in the NBA.

I respect your ideas as a poster (as well as the others in this thread), but I have to disagree with tanking also. I would much rather trade a very good roleplayer for draft picks or a young star (or even an older one under contract for 3 or 4 years) and get younger or cheaper, rather than an older one for 1 and a half years (and not have the capability of winning a championship with either).

So why doesn't Nash fit in with us trying to win? He'd ONLY make the team better.

Btw, the Rockets are currently 7th in offense w/o Steve Nash. Meanwhile their starting center is 6'6". Why the hell are we talking about Steve Nash?

bring in backup veteran talent, steal a promising rookie while you're at it, or even squeeze yourself as a middle man to make the deal work with a three-team trade.

trade AB and keep kyle while you're at it.

then trade scola and chase for a real player of star calibur, get a real center, and then sign landry in the off season, bam contender.

If they bring in a completely different point guard in to play with these guys why wouldnt they tweak the lineup? It's not a major change, you're just giving Hill more minutes and taking some from chuck. That's what's going to end up happening anyway as Hill continues to improve.

Yao wouldn't be able to play with this team because they now run, but if Nash comes here there's no one to run with him?

Marion and Stat were ok and good before Nash (respectively). They each got better with him. Now the comparisons u just made and your argument have really made it hard for me to hold my tongue.

It would make it easier for Les to let go of Yao if we got another star here...Martin runs, Twill runs, bud runs, lee runs, lowry runs, scola runs, jhill runs, chuck runs...battier runs to the corner, but that should still count

how many players in the league are 37 or 38? Not many. Why?

If Nash were the missing peice to a team that could compete for a championship I would be all over it. But what will it cost to get Nash and does ANYONE think he would still be here or contribute in any way to a championship run?

Is our teams problems on offense or defense?

I was pointing out the conflicting arguments presented by the detractors.

If they gave Nash away for AB and trash, that's cool. Anything else would be pushing it. Defense and size are the things we really need.
