Rockets are at #3 they should be 2. The celtics havent played anyone yet and we are 6-1 with a hard schedule. This is what he says: Congratulations again, Rockets. Your reward for winning the season's first matchup with the Spurs, come Friday, is a fun little three-game run: Game 1 in San Antonio, then home against Phoenix and Dallas back-to-back. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/powerranking?season=2008&week=2
ESPN Power Rankings Week 2: Rockets at #3 West strength shows again, 7 out of top 10 are western conference teams. 1. San Antonio Spurs 2. Boston Celtics 3. Houston Rockets 4. Phoenix Suns 5. Dallas Mavericks 6. Detroit Pistons 7. Utah Jazz 8. Orlando Magic 9. New Orleans Hornets 10. Los Angeles Lakers http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/powerranking?season=2008&week=2
It is pretty fair rankings for our part. The C's are looking great (and undefeated) and the Spurs are looking good as well. They are defending champs so you gotta give them the edge. I am content that we are sitting at #3 for now. Now if we beat the Spurs, Suns, and Mavs...oh wow, I think I'll go nuts!
one could argue that the rockets are the 2nd best team in texas now. but that would suggest that we are better than a team who beat us.
How is it that we beat the Spurs and are ranked below them? And the Celtics being #2? Come on- who have they played so far? East coast bias rears it's head again.
Boston will be the media's sexy pick this year. They will be near the top at least until they make a run out West and face some real teams.
Look at the margins of victory for both the Spurs and Celtics. They're destroying most of their opponents. The Rockets may be 6-1, but they struggled to beat the Bucks and Bobcats in their last 2 games. Besides, I don't like #1 rankings. Last time they did that, we went into Dallas and lost.
Give the Celtics credit where credit is due. They may only have played inferior opponents but at least their game is consistent. The Big 3 shows up every night, ready to play. As for our team, unless we learn to play with some consistency, we deserve to be a 3.
I think very soon we'll be recognized as a 'monster' team. As many have said, we're now way way past sneaking up on anyone.
Sorta, like college football, the C's getting hyped up for undefeated record, like Boston College or even Ohio State. While the Rockets, Jazz, Lakers, or Spurs, are more like SEC or Pac-10 teams who have unbelievably tough schedule and series of back-to back games against teams over .500. Still managed have pretty good record deserves. Don't get me wrong, the Celtics have a great team, but if they were in the West or had to play Detroit, the Cavs, Bulls, Magic, and Heat all in weeks time, I don't think they would go undefeated. Since the East is showing itself to possibly be inferior again.
Not that I care about these things, but if Houston can make a case for #1 (and beat #1) why are they #3?
who cares if we are number one in the espn power rankings. all i care about is nba in the nba finals rankings. after the last decade of failure i just don't care about anything else.
The rankings are sh**, especially coming from ESPN. The only way we can tell if we're a good team or not is by beating the other teams that are ranked above us, and most importantly, do it in the playoffs
