Welcome to capitalism and the mostly free market. If someone is willing to pay you so much money you obviously deserve it.

    What are you, a communist?

Popular actors and directors get paid millions. Popular authors and musicians, too-- from Jay Z to the Rolling Stones to George R.R. Martin and Stephen King. Talk show hosts and news anchors are highly compensated-- Jon Stewart, Conan O'Brien, Sean Hannity, Megan Kelly.

People enjoy the products that they produce, and because there are a lot of people in their audience, a little bit of revenue from each person add up to millions and millions of money.

Is there something wrong with people enjoying all these things-- spectator sports, music, movies, reading...-- and spending money on these interests as oppose to other activities (which also tend to generate revenue for businesses serving participants in them)?

Does Lebron deserve his pay less than, say, a Wall Street trader or a lawyer deserve his?

Wasn't at one point Seinfeld was getting paid $20 million an episode (or season) for doing a 30 min sitcom that aired once a week. And there are the same amount if not way more people that like to watch some of these athletes play than there are that think Seinfeld is funny. Some actors get $20 million to do a movie that might not be worth watching.

Funny how actors (who only have to remember lines) don't catch the same "get paid too much" stigma as athletes.

Mello is basically a 1000 times better version of T Jones.

Again, Carmelo Anthony is a top 8 player in the league no matter how you chop it up. That gives us 3/8. I believe he will sign with Houston.

    Howard
    Anthony
    Parsons
    Harden
    Bev

    Is awesome.

I agree that this is the most likely scenario for the Rockets. I posted in another thread about Parosns coming off the bench but the flexibility to play this lineup or go with him off the bench is a huge bonus for this team (especially for matchup purposes in the playoffs). In Morey We Trust.

I'd be surprised if Melo doesn't take the Mavs off his list, once he finds out Felton been traded there.. why would he join a team, with players he's trying to get away from.. lol

With each of these teams there are a number of weaknesses. With the Mavs for example, you have a team that is old and declining - Dirk, VC, etc. are not young players and the team itself has no infusion of young talent on the way. They are a shell of the team that won the finals years ago and Lebron or Melo going there would definitely make the team a finals contender, but I dont think by themselves insure a championship.

With the Bulls you simply lack elite talent. Rose is the only elite player on the team and he's injured far too often to rely on.

With the Rockets you have a player in Harden that is very difficult to co-locate another wing star with. He is a ball hog and doesnt play defense, simple as that. Additionally, this team has very little depth and the bench contributed almost nothing in the playoffs last year.

I obviously think we have the best chance of landing someone like Melo, but this team needs to address gaps like our PG, PF, and bench play for the coming year in order to truly compete for a championship....

How can people say Harden couldn't coexist with another dominant scorer when he came from OKC doing exactly that and at a very productive clip...? Just stupid to me... Durant, Westbrook are two ball dominant players, are they not?

Harden is the big problem with Houston!!! Oh btw -- we need a Pg, Pf, and a bench.

Huh? We've already seen that Harden fit in while playing with both Durant and Westbrook. Why do you think a star wing couldn't play with him?

What exactly is your definition of a "ball hog"?

What elite scorer shoots the ball less than Harden? Take a look at the top 10 or 12 scorers in the league. Guess who has the fewest field goal attempts per game from that group? It's Harden at 16.5 FGA.

Harden's usage rate is 27.6%. That's not high for a star player. Do you also think that Lebron (30.9%), Durant (32.7%), Anthony (32.3%), Westbrook (33.3%), Griffin (29.5%), George (28.2%), Aldridge( 29.9%) and Curry (28.1%) are ball hogs too? They all have higher usage rates than Harden. In fact, even in his role as the #2 guy in Miami, Wade's usage rate is identical to Harden's (27.6%).

Agreed, Harden would never be any kind of weakness with signing Carmelo.

If anything our weakness is we're in the West & it's arguable that he'll have an easier path to the finals with Chicago. The key will forever be, how well does he trust Rose to get back to his old form?

    Great points, aelliott.

People who just assume that Harden can't mesh well with an LBJ or Melo simply have not done their homework.

I think us with Melo would make us immediate contenders, and Melo's good.....but not top 8 good....

So... do we chase Melo again? Sounds like a divorce.

I don't think we can trade for him now even if we wanted to because of the salary.
