Yeah I can totally see that being his logic. Will definitely miss his commentary, we had only one national broadcaster have our back and we might lose him. Oh well best of luck if he takes the position.
From my understanding, he's been declining offers for a while now. A lot of people thought he would go for the Knicks or Nets gig. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-cards="hidden" data-partner="tweetdeck"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Link to ESPN latest on Jeff Van Gundy, New Orleans and rest of NBA coaching carousel: <a href="http://t.co/vEjqRY5F8w">http://t.co/vEjqRY5F8w</a></p>— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) <a href="https://twitter.com/ESPNSteinLine/status/601955322211618817">May 23, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
lol everyone interested in coaching Anthony Davis. So far we have like 5 coaches. Thibs Calipari Gentry JVG and Brooks. I think the only coach who would say no to A.D is Popovich and only because he's about to retire. All the others would gladly jump ship and go coach him if they had the chance.
Please Nola just say no. His coaching will set your team back for years. He is Thibodeau on steroids. He preaches a suffocated defense and the most plain vanilla offense you can imagine. Your big man will spend years defending pick'n'rolls 20 feet from the basket instead of locking down the paint. On offense, basically the ball will never leave your primary dribbler's hands ala Alston-McGrady, leading to a series of WTF last second desperation attempts. You can also bid farewell to a transition game and fastbreak points. God forbid if you'll ever see an athletic run and jump type player on your roster again. Also your team will somehow find itself chock full of undersized combo guards at the helm. Owing to all of these, your best player will be overused and exhausted to the point of just breaking down. Take the advice and hire someone who can drive the Ferrari you miraculously won in the lottery instead of this guy who is only adept at steering big heavy dump trucks through salvage yards.
If they were in Seattle still, Westbrook and Durant are more likely to stay. Methlahoma just sucks bad.
Then he quit on the Knicks, Riley fired his brother and he turned down interviews for several jobs because he found his new home in Houston. Now his daughter is grown up, moved out and NO is close to home.
JVG will want full power like his brother has. I don't think he will get it in NO, even though he would be better than the current GM.
It's too bad the Pelicans are just not well managed. They lucked into Davis, but otherwise they've made zero good moves. Bet they wish they had a 1st round pick in this draft. Or cap room. Or something.
