How's that Michael Steele stuff working out for you, basso? http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/...ly-dont-have-a-reason-to-vote-gop.php?ref=fpb Steele: African-Americans 'Really Don't Have A Reason' To Vote GOP Eric Kleefeld | April 21, 2010, 3:03PM Appearing Tuesday at DePaul University in Chicago, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said that the Republican Party has not given African-Americans a reason to vote for them. "You really don't have a reason to, to be honest -- we haven't done a very good job of really giving you one. True? True," said Steele, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Steele said how the Republican party had been founded as a pro-civil rights party, with Frederick Douglass among its early members. However, Steele explained, the Republican Party has alienated those voters: "For the last 40-plus years we had a 'Southern Strategy' that alienated many minority voters by focusing on the white male vote in the South. Well, guess what happened in 1992, folks, 'Bubba' went back home to the Democratic Party and voted for Bill Clinton."
Sooner or later Black America won't have to listen to the likes of J.Jackson or M.Steele to make up their own minds.
I was actually curious to know, so I googled it. According to the BLS, unemployment among blacks is essentially double that of whites and sits at 16.5% in March. They have data that goes back a year and it seems like black unemployment hasn't recovered while white unemployment has, somewhat. But, I don't know if the difference is statistically significant, or just noise (the black number jumps around). Asian unemployment is below white unemployment, btw, at 7.5% in March. Hispanics are at 12.6%. http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t02.htm I would be interested to see how black unemployment fared compared to white unemployment before the recession, but haven't found it yet. I think ling ling's point is measuring what the Democrats have done for blacks lately. I don't think this is a good way to measure it. But, it is interesting nevertheless to see where groups stand.
I commend ling ling on his repeated ability to display his perspective and unique affinity for seeing matters in black and white:
As some warn victory, some downfall Private reasons great or small Can be seen in the eyes of those that call To make all that should be killed to crawl While others say don’t hate nothing at all Except hatred
Yes, 96%(of black voters) voted for Obama. What does that have to do with Jesse Jackson or Michael Steele and black America having to listen to either of them to make up their mind?
They were voting their interests. Same reason a majority of rich people vote Republican. Or a majority of racists or homophobes: when a bloc votes a certain way, it's generally for the party that best represents their interests.
I really don't care about race relations or homosexual rights either way. I just want low taxes and low government costs so people can save a little more and one day start a business and achieve the American dream. Republicans seem to be more for small business owners whereas the democrats are based on big corporations, governments and workers of the world united. Just a fundamental difference.
