That's right. And she was pretty much standing in front of that same display she's standing in front of in this trailer.

Not sure, but I think Tarkin made an appearance at the very end of III and was already balding, so probably not.

I realize this was just a teaser, but it didn't answer the one question everyone cares about:

What creature/droid is Alan Tudyk providing the voice work for????

    ::EDIT::

OK, he was the droid that was running with Felicity Jones.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be Tarkin.

Actually, that looks like the secret/hidden base on Yavin... in ROTJ, she was on a ship.

Her character is a huge foundational piece of the rebellion (based on the EU)... but unfortunately they didn't have her in mind when ANH first came out.

Here's the end of III. Upon further review, yeah, it could be the same guy.

Some nerd online on a movie website pointed out that white usually denotes a Grand Admiral (a higher rank than Grand Moff) and Grand Moff's wear grey (as we saw in the original trilogy with Tarkin) so they theorize that it is in fact NOT Tarkin, but someone else, new. If so, they sure picked a guy (Ben Mendehlsson) who can pull off a pretty convincing young Tarkin.

The actor playing Tarkin is Peter Cushing from A New Hope. Yes he is dead, but it will be a hologram or something like that (similar to the Tupac thing).

    Rogue One[edit]
In late August 2015, it was reported that the deceased Peter Cushing would be digitally resurrected via CGI to appear in the role once again for Rogue One.[4][3]

Interesting. So the guy in the white cloak is someone else, it seems.

Hey so is the Rule of Two still a thing or is that no longer canon?

Floored by this preview! At first I thought Forrest's character was Morgan from WD!

Palpatine is in the middle, Tarkin on the left.

    Trailer kicks some ass, yeah?

    Me likey.

Disney is smart. Or they hired smart people for these Star Wars films. Get strong female leads; that way you don't just limit your audience to those dudes who think Chewbacca might be real.

That MAY be the same character, but there is going to be a bit of continuity problem there, because this movie takes place pretty much at the exact same time frame as the very beginning of Star Wars, and the character of Grand Moff Tarkin was far older:

Clearly they tried to make sure they made the character look similar at the end of Ep 3, and since another 20-ish years would pass before Star Wars, the look worked.

But the guy in the trailer, who does not seem to appear on IMBD yet, looks much too young to be Tarkin.

So either he will be Tarkin, and they are just not going to care that much about that particular continuity, or else he is just some other bigwig Imperial officer. Personally, I am betting on the latter.

On a side note, I wondered if John Williams was going to do the music for Rogue One, and apparently he isn't/didn't, as music is credited to Alexander Desplat. Not a deal-breaker or anything, but interesting enough to note.

Never mind, it's Ben Mendelsohn, his pic on IMDB just makes him look MUCH younger than the character in the trailer.

Almost a certainty that it's not Tarkin then, but someone else, some are suggesting possibly even Thrawn.
