Rockets Team Report By Michael Murphy/Houston Chronicle Roster rundown OCTOBER 10, 2000 Print it An analytical look at the Rockets' training camp roster: STARTING FIVE PG Steve Francis, 6-3, second year: Maybe the most explosive point guard in the West. Think of a bigger, quicker, better-shooting Kevin Johnson. SG Shandon Anderson, 6-6, fourth year: If teammates ever figure out his smooth off-the-ball game, he should really blossom in the Rockets' system. C Hakeem Olajuwon, 7-0, 16th year: If he's healthy, could help. PF Maurice Taylor, 6-9, third year: Hopefully will take his parole from Clipperland and give the Rockets punch in a slot where they need it most. SF Walt Williams, 6-8, eighth year: No longer the Wizard, but still an effective outside shooter who can surprise with the occasional move. ROTATION SG Cuttino Mobley, 6-4, second year: Hyper lefty who can take it to the hole or knock down the outside jumper on you. Good defender when he wants to. C Kelvin Cato, 6-11, third year: Could be (or should be) much better. This will be a telling year for a guy who is more athlete than player right now. PG Moochie Norris, 6-1, third year: Provides a near-seamless transition when Francis sits. Another lefty who has a strong off-the-dribble game. PF Kenny Thomas, 6-7, second year: Had a solid rookie year, but still undersized against the big power forwards in the West. THE REST SF Matt Bullard, 6-10, ninth year: Great outside shooter, especially from the arc, and an even better team-chemistry guy in the locker room. C Jason Collier, 7-0, rookie: Can shoot from the outside, but will struggle on defense. Needs strength and NBA-type conditioning. SF Dan Langhi, 6-11, rookie: Billed as an outside shooter at Vanderbilt, but can put the ball on the floor and get inside and to the line. PF Carlos Rogers, 6-11, sixth year: Good-hearted and skilled, but still a question mark. A walking filibuster who can grate with his non-stop chatter. ********************************************* PG Steve Francis, 6-3, second year: Maybe the most explosive point guard in the West. Think of a bigger, quicker, better-shooting Kevin Johnson. ********************************************* Can you get a better compliment. KJ was legit and Stevie is bigger, quicker, better version. My god....he's about to take the league (and the world) by storm. ------------------ "...Do you hear 'em? They're everywhere!!! AAAHHH!!!" That's what the other teams will be saying after being shellshocked by Steve Francis and Co.
Not a bad comparision at all. Steve definitely has the fire and determination that KJ had. Let's hope this is the year we get to see it displayed in the playoffs! Ever notice that the KJ references never cease around here?? ------------------ Too often, we lose sight of life's simple pleasures. Remember, when someone annoys you it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, but it only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and pimp-slap the mother****** upside the head!
He's screwed up the years of experience everyone's got. Francis, he says, is in his second year, which is right, but then he says Mobley is in his second year, which is obviously wrong. Does the same thing to Mo (3rd year? Did we trade with the Clips to get him or something?) and everyone else. I know it doesn't much matter, but I've had a long day and want to complain about something. ------------------ Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
