4yr 25M? Great deal for Speedy! They gave him the extra year versus Bobby Jackson's 3yr 17M from the Hornets.

That's great news for Rockets fans that were afraid the Hawks were going to steal Mike James.

Speedy will be a great addition to the Hawks at PG with Joe Johnson at SG.
The additions of Speedy and Shelden Williams will pay off big dividends for the Hawks this season.

Wow .... good and bad at the same time. This means that the Mavs are now the only other major player in the Mike James sweepstakes, very good.

But $25 mil for four years? Come on, this guy's nowhere as good as James. Duffy's going to use that as leverage to demand a 5 year contract.

4yrs 25M for Speedy? I think it's gonna take more than the MLE or TE to bring MJ back.

Not necessarily. Atlanta has cap space. The other teams with cap space really have no need for Mike James.

Besides, the money isn't vastly different when compared to Houston's cost of living and hometown cooking and etc etc.

Then give him 5 years. I don't give a crap. We're totally backed into a corner. It's Mike James or bust.

The Hawks will be better this season. Very good move for them. If Woody can't coach them to a better record he should be fired early in the season.

Speedy Claxton commits with Hawks: Will it afffect MJ's market price?

With Speedy Claxton commiting to Atlanta, MJ is the only starting caliber PG left in the market. However, all the teams with capspace, now have a starting PG, which means nobody is going to pay MJ more than MLE. I think our chances of getting MJ have increased considerably and probably a 4Y-deal with MLE or a 5Y-deal with 4.2M TE (amounting equal to 4Y MLE) will get it done. Thoughts...

    JJ is overpaid, too.

    So, let's get MJ!

You just jinxed us from getting James. I wont believe it until I see it or read it. If the draft taught u anything, its that the NBA is very unpredictable.

Rockets Management need to go through a serious Negotiating 101 course!
They put all the cards on the table and expect a easy time in closing a deal.

Are we planning on Signing Bonzi with the MLE????? Bonzi as the SG and James as the 6th MAn would be great. I just dont like the " let-us-split- the MLE crap"

This team is one step away from Contending and the owner still does not want to spend- so much for all the talk!

The problem is that there isn't a whole lot of players that are worth a full MLE that aren't going to get better offers. I'd be surprised if we could land Bonzi for example. He'll either re-sign in Sacramento for more than the MLE, or go to Detroit for the MLE and play with his "boy" Rasheed. And then you got restricted guys like Wilcox or Jeffries that might be matched.

So in order to get any bang for your buck, you might have to go for splitting it up shrewdly.

I officially retract every time that I said the Hawks would sign James and the Rockets needed to look to get Claxton. Put everything into signing James now.

Hopefully that'll sway him. But 4 years at the MLE is around $20M give or take, that's a $5M difference.
