How many open spots do we have, only 1 right? Like that's going to change a lot...JB Bickerstaff needs to go as well.
JVG wouldn't bench him either. But, he would be all over him to cover his assignments. I think you need the power of controlling minutes for the leverage, but actually pulling minutes isn't the only way a coach can get results. I'm sure Harden and all the players want to do right and please their coach. But, the coach has to actually be displeased before changes will be made. JVG would have demanded more and gotten more on defense this last season. There's also the interchange of offense and defense. There's choices you make on offense to improve your defense. A defensive coordinator needs the buy-in of the head coach to make sacrifices on the offensive end to improve the defense. Stuff like laying off the offensive rebounds to be able to get back quicker, playing safer to reduce turnovers, and giving minutes to defensive players that are a relative liability on offense (Bowen, anyone?).
Hollins is absolutely already a much much better head coach than the clueless incompetent disgrace to Rockets McHale. Morey's big plan is to use McHale to lure Love if possible and then dump his sorry ass and let a real coach like Hollins take over.
Given we lost the Portland series on a coaching mistake. I don't have to say how idiotic this post is
So it was McHales fault that Harden couldn't hit shots he hit all season and that LMA in games 1 and 2 hit 5 times as many contested and just straight lucky long range jumpers then he did in the last 4 games combined? Hell even just saying those 2 things is a misrepresentation of exactly why we lost. Lots of things went wrong. An elite offensive player had to play like crap, their 2 best players had to play out of their minds, 2 terrible untimely calls that were later deemed incorrect by the league had to happen, some terrible untimely turnovers had to happen, a shot at the buzzer even as wide open as it was had to happen.... ALL that for us to lose a series in which we OUTSCORED the opponent. Yet to some it can all be summed up with it was McFails fault. The blame game really gets out of control around here.
I'd rather they sign Shane Battier as the associate head coach, and groom him as the future head coach. He's available
Come on, I'm pretty sure he has a coaching out clause in his deal. If George Karl has one I don't see why Shane wouldn't. The rockets can pay him more than espn can either way. Battier is gonna be a great coach, the rockets should buy in early
We're trying to win a chip with the current team, Rockets don't have the time to gamble and develop an unproven coach. This team needs an experienced coach that is respected by the players, holds them accountable and has a winning system that the players buy into.
