What concerns me is that Morey is just betting that an impact player would become available in the buyout market. If their goal is to win a championship, then they should know that the Rockets needs to be much more well-rounded, versatility, depth, and overall talent if they want any chance to dethrone GSW. He came into FA a bit apathetic and lackluster, which resulted in the Rockets missing out on great opportunities to improve. The West has gotten better while the Rockets has taken a few steps backwards.

The Rockets has a short championship window and if that window closes without any hardware to show for, Morey will be remembered for squandering a championship window of one of the best backcourt in NBA history. Daryl Morey has been timid, apprehensive, & ambiguous at a time when he's needed to be bold, intrepid & gutsy. In order for the Rockets to have any chance against GSW, they need to further progress & surpass the bar that they set last season. The Buyout markets is great for acquiring additional depth, temporary fixes, or addressing a need, but not trying to transcend a team with championship aspirations.

He is holding on it to use as patchwork when/if he can find a taker for Anderson. He doesn’t know what he will get back and what youngster he is going to package with him. The little bit of money left is to keep the bottom of the rotation serviceable and level.

(Random thought a three point specialist would have pushed us into to finals last season & That is a nothing contact.)

    Josh Smith

I do agree with your sentiments, that we are liable to waste the MLE, and enough so to consider giving the MLE to Melo, so we have a better chance of keeping him in the Summer (more money to match, without using next summer's MLE). But I can't deny Josh Smith fits the formula of buyout, who took most money, who moved the needle.

Whatever they pay Capela, I just hope he continues to improve significantly by the year. I'm kinda scared he's just going to end up as he is now for the rest of his career after he gets his big check.

they great thing is that if no significant buyout candidates emerge this season, then tilman doesn't have to spend our MLE!

Trade Anderson and Nanu for LeBron. If the Lakers play hardball I guess we could throw in a pick. Then sign Hakeem to come off the bench. Done deal. ;)

Go look at the list of players right now who are making 5 mil. Do any of them move the needle? During buyout season you will get Multiple players worth more than that and having the MLE will just increase your odds of signing them.

Can someone run the numbers on what it would cost in taxes to waive Nanu and add Adel on a small 2 or 3 year deal? It’s probably too much and that’s a shame. Adel looks like winner to me who could pay off hansomely down the road.

A year with RGV and he’s potentially a rotation piece.

Im getting the weird feeling that he's actually telling fans that Melo won't be bought out until mid season. I hope that's not the case and that I'm reading too much into it, but he's literally describing Melo's situation.

I'm OK with this. There just isn't anybody out there that I think would move the needle for us.

I like adding Melton and Hartenstein with the MLE and saving the rest for midseason versus using it all right now to sign one player. Melton in particular looks like he could be very useful this season. Hartenstein I'm less confident in helping much this year, but I understand trying to lock up a potential prospect.

As for people contemplating retaining Melo. Either he's good and commands well above 7 million, or he sucks and we don't really want him back. I don't foresee him leaving a ton of money on the table if he plays really well for us.

You may be right... If I where the Atlanta GM I would force a go with him and not just throw money at him to stay away. What do they have to loose? It’s not like they’re in the East and could make a play off run with a patchwork of scraps. The Atlanta GM is in a win/WIN here —> if it doesn’t work it’s on Melo BUT if it does he is the smartest person in the league —> Picked up a star and pick for back up point guard.

I allude to LOVE a lot. Love can be Kevin. Love an be kind. THe KEvin Love was discussed in a three team swap, but ultimately, (from a former Cleveland ear) Kevin Love was going to become the familiar face of the franchise if they couldn't move him. So, it happened.

Rockets fans are going to feel more love, in time. You now have Melo without giving up anything. You have a trading piece that has some more offers, and watch out or the FreeBirds looking to come to the party.

Like I mentioned last year before OKC's office burned the Rox, Melo ALWAYS wanted to be here. His hand was forced by the old NY BRass.

My friend NN already told me that the hatchet is buried b/t MDA and Me70. Me7o allegedly spoke to CP3 and admitted selfishness, even with his damn wedding to LaLa. (That was a spectacle...experienced it first had with all of the, well, upkeeping)

The puzzle isn't over. You've got CP/James/Clint/Melo/EG and soon another dependable PF and guard.

    It's Love.

Let's settle this. MELO WILL BE WAIVED. He had a no trade clause in his contract. He only agreed to the trade knowing that Atlanta will then buy him out for the full amount of his contract. No NBA team ever would renege on this as it would violate contract law basically. MELO HAD A NO TRADE CLAUSE so the only reason he is on the Hawks is to finally be waived and join the Rockets.

As previously mentioned it seems since 2008 Josh Smith seems to be the only impact player Clutchfans so far can remember that the Rockets got during the buyout. Then one has to consider many of GM's will try to trade the player first and then look for a buyout if no one wants to trade for that player. 3 and D players are highly coveted in today's NBA. If the Rockets have stopped looking for one on the market to incorporate into their system then we have to hope that one emerges from the G league if there is an injured 3 and D Rockets player before the buyout approaches. One has to hope Morey has something up his sleeve before training camp starts and not gambling on grabbing who shakes loose later in the season given our success rate since 2008.

Good point. I am trying to remember the last Rocket's draft pick the Rockets resigned right after their rookie season contract expired. Hope Capela and Melton will be with the team for many future seasons.
