Woj: Minnesota's asking price remains steep. They want quality veteran players, they want top young prospects, they want draft picks & they want salary cap relief (Gorgui Dieng). That's more than teams are willing to pay for Butler. Miami is a team that's interested. Butler would like...he's open to signing extensions with several teams. Not only Miami. If a team gets in position to make a trade for him and are able to work out an agreement for a trade, then they'll go to Butler and say 'Is this a team you're interested in signing with?' If that team is willing to max him out, chances are very good Butler would be open to a deal to those teams. When does Glen Taylor step in & take over negotiations? He's certainly involved in talks now. He's allowed Thibodeau & Layden to be the front people in talking to teams but there are teams back-channeling to Glen Taylor too. There's a belief among teams who'd like to get at a Butler deal that their best chance for a deal sooner than later is by going through the owner rather than the front office.
I would love to see the wild ass ideas Morey is trying to pull off for this trade Gordon is about the best thing they can get to replace the role of Jimmy at SG and is a veteran that might actually help you contend because most likely no young star is going there as a free agent Marquiese Chriss could be a young developing 4 to replace Gibson and was the 8th pick two years ago(I actually think he'll be good on the rockets) and would also probably be the best young player they would receive that has potential Throw 1 or 2 fillers with a 1st and I think that could be one of the better deals minny could get
Wolves can get a quality vet and cap relief or a young prospect and a pick, they’re not getting all 4...they need to stop playing games, lower their price, and get this over with Butler is good, but he’s about to be a free agent, and he’s not Anthony Davis
i sleep a little better knowing you have no input in the rockets front office. how many times does morey need to say it? you win in this league with STARS. our chances of beating gsw go up exponentially w butler yet you're over here worried about the 9th and 10th guys on our bench. that isn't how you build a championship team in today's nba. i feel like you have a hard time grasping this concept.
I don't know if the Rockets will trade for Butler or not. What I *DO* know is, IF they do trade for him, Morey ALREADY has the cap projections YEARS down the road to know the ramifications of this. Don't worry about the LT/Repeater and all of this stuff. Morey has assuredly taken all of this into account with his chess moves down the road.
No way does Minny get ALL THREE of these 1) Vet/prospects 2) Picks 3) Salary relief (Dieng moved). Again, look at the Paul George and Kawhi trades. Looks clear to me that Miami not putting Josh Richardson in the deal is a big hold up.
Thibs is funny. He wouldn't get that package for Jimmy Butler even if he were signed to $100m and 5 years. Never mind expiring-contract, disgruntled and unstable Butler who has publicly demanded a trade. Heck, that's more than what he initially traded for Butler.
Miami could offer Winslow instead of Josh along with Tyler Johnson and a first. That's not a bad deal.
why not ask for shares to the team while they are at it? Unless the draft picks are second rounders , the veteran players are like Zach Randolph and the young prospects are like Mudiay?
I would not be surprised if Miami WAS offering that. But Minny is saying take back Dieng. OR replace Tyler Johnson with Richardson. We don't know how Minny values Winslow. Maybe with Wiggins already there, not much. Tough to say.
Not bad but probably not what Minnie is looking for, and can't blame them, Tyler Johnson with his 40Mx2 contract isn't exactly something needed especially when you have already Teague making the same exact money...Winslow with Wiggins eh, not sure that's a great fit tbh...
