I think it’s because the Wolves want them to take on Dieng and that’s pretty much a non starter with their cap situation. Any trade Miami makes will also be pretty damn expensive.
You'd be sending out nearly as much money as you take in, so this year, there's barely any $$$ impact. Yes, Butler would be due a raise, but it'd be a stupid deal for the Rockets if Morey hadn't already discussed with Fertitta whether he'd be willing to pay the max to keep him.
Yeah, any move for Butler, people need to remember that Morey and Tilman know the ramifications. They know the levers to pull down the road to achieve their roster objectives. People shouldn't get caught up in that stuff. They plan far ahead.
Again, I don’t doubt whether Butler can succeed in such a role. I know he can, and provide an added playmaking dimension, too. However, I don’t agree about the reasons he didn’t get many catch and shoot opportunities in Chicago and Minnesota. He wanted the offense funneled through him in both places, not to be a catch and shoot player. That would not be the case with the Rockets. However, as you said in a separate post, the Rockets take advantage of ISO matchups a lot, so there will be times the offense is funneled through him. Also, Jeff Teague is not a bad point guard. Obviously not on CP3’s level, but he’s a competent facilitator.
Someone did meet Tilman at the bar (Post Oak?) last night and posted it in a FB sports group Fertita supposedly told him they’re trying hard to get Butler. Nothing new there tho really
I wonder if Miami is worried about resigning Butler. Butler has consistently said he's all about winning. There's a healthy chance that even with Butler and less a few of their role players, they are at the bottom end of the playoffs in the east. It may be why they are reluctant to include some of their young guys.
Good post, and I agree 100%. Also, for the record, I’m completely in favor of trading Gordon and spare parts for Butler. I just want to keep Tucker because his defensive capabilities will be needed against Golden State.
I agree. Having Butler in Tucker’s role is wasting his skill set. That’s why I’m in favor of moving Gordon and spare parts for Butler, then playing him at the three with Tucker at the four. Especially against Golden State.
I think the Miami situation is Riley's hubris. He doesn't want to give up Richardson. If he was on the table, they might be able to get the deal done. The Heat lack picks and the ability for salary relief. So their only nugget is quality veteran. And Riley is holding him back. Not sure Minny holds Winslow in high regard. They probably look at Richardson and Eric Gordon as much better FITS with KAT and Wiggins right now. Minny has no use for Whiteside or Tyler Johnson in terms of salary matching.
