They can lol, but it's likely they're going to have a shitty bench going forward...fwiw. The best we can hope is that when Thompson contract is up, he'll leave to be the man somewhere else ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's good to have dreams... as long as you don't allow the far fetched desires to interfere with more realistic opportunities to better your situation...
I feel like in today's NBA players value attention more than money. And in some cases both because endorsement deals are stupid rich nowadays. I think there will be a parade of ringchasers willing to take paycuts until something changes.
Warriors and Cavs came together at the very perfect time when the cap sky rocketed and the Warriors had bird rights to all their players. Any team that wants to build a powerhouse will have to do so by gutting their entire roster and have a bunch of bum role players around their 2 or maybe 3 stars. That's why i don't understand some of these "stars" thought process. A team like the Sixers arent even a serious consideration when they could be the next Warriors with 3 or 4 guys that could turn out to be big time still on rookie contracts and the Sixers will have their bird rights, if you are a star and you join that young core, it could be legit contender QUICK.
Or you could be part of a losing team for 3 years and then find out that Embiid is the next Greg Oden and Simmons busts. I'm not predicting that Simmons busts or that Embiid never plays a healthy season, but it's a significant risk. Lots of young prospects fail to pan out. If Embiid and Simmons (and whomever they add this year) pan out, there's plenty of chance to sign a major free agent near the end of their rookie contracts.
People complaining about having three point guards are probably the same idiots who complained about the D'antoni hiring.. Shut Up.
Love the idea, but don't see how it's feasible unless Utah and LAC go out of their wayto help us via SnT. I am a dream big kinda guy, but this seems completely unrealistic due the CBA rules.
Bettering your situation incrementally won't cut it if your window currently resolves around Harden's prime which coincides with the GSW peak.
This can happen but you have to sub PG with hayward which will be better for us money wise and fit wise IMO. We would have to work on a 3 team deal ...Something like Hou gets: PG Ind gets: Whatever picks they want,Dekker, lou, young player from the 3rd team 3rd team gets: Bev or Ariza PG will have to demand this obviously or indiana wont bite Trade ryno to some team like detroit or a S&T with toronto for pat if ibaka leaves and get CP3 to get a slight paycut Its far fetched but a trio of paul, PG, and harden will be second in the west for sure no matter who the rest of the bench is filled out with. You get one peace to fall and maybe the rest keep falling by themselves
Every team thinks that and its happens sometimes. Dwight came here just 4 years ago stop acting like its not normal, cp3 amost came here before we dont know whats in his head until he chooses, hell I never thought in a million years Kevin Durant would be a huge p***y and go to the Warriors. I guarantee you though there were Warriors fans discussing the possibility.
If the Rockets want BOTH of these guys, I am guessing that Eric Gordon would have to go. He makes a lot of money and the Rockets would have enough perimeter scorers in Harden, CP, Gordon and Lou Williams.
Lou would have to go too. Anderson, Gordon, Ariza, Lou and Beverley would all have to be traded with no salary in return, THEN Hayward and or CP3 would have to take at least a combined 25 million pay cut (over the 4 year contracts). It's extremely unlikely, if not impossible. Paul and Hayward would have to be extremely excited about forming a team together to take such pay cuts.
This has no chance of happening. Secondly, trading Gordon and/or Anderson one year after giving them big money in free agency would make it less likely future free agents consider the Rockets. Lastly, how much better are you after gutting the team to end up with Paul, Harden, Hayward and no depth?
You could technically say that Morey is going after CP3, Durant, Hayward, Millsap, and trying to trade for Kevin Love and that could all technically be true.... However what is it that Morey is really planning when these pipe dreams don't come to fruition? If all of these players agree to come to Houston you figure it out and trade others to make cap space if you have to. It's Moreys job to kick the tires on everything. Doesn't mean there is more than a 1% chance of it happening. I'll be more than happy if Morey can figure out how to get even one of those guys. Even "just" Millsap even that alone will be tough.
