I would love Hayward here (even though i think he's more a third best player in a championship caliber team), but i think he's eventually going to Boston. I'd say pretty good (his D), at least it was, i still haven't see him this season.
By no means a superstar, but definitely a better max contract value than a Ryan Anderson. I would be on board.
I'm curious to see how Sam Dekker continues to develop, I'm starting to see him as our SF of the future and a solid secondary play-maker to Harden. But I guess I'm ok with Hayward too.
He's a very good perimeter defender, but not so hot otherwise. Putting that aside, Hayward would be a good fit the way the league plays today. I can see Morey giving him a serious look. Trevor is on the backside of his career and Dekker is still a work in progress, and probably a 4/3, rather than a 3/4.
As if there was ever a chance of Morey NOT eyeing Hayward next summer. But, can the Rockets make him the max offer he will get from other teams. And, would Hayward want to come to Houston and play second fiddle to Harden? I don't see him choosing the Rockets, but Morey will try to make it happen as usual.
43% from the field, 35% from 3, and 5 FT's in 36 minutes? Better than the average scorer yes, but for those scoring numbers I can think of 30-4o players I'd rather have shooting. I'm not even sure he's a better scorer than Eric Gordon. The difference obviously is Hayward does a bunch of other things like rebound really well and play defense too.
if we can clear enough cap for a max contract (ariza/brewer/beverley) my list next summer is: 1) blake - would put ryno on the bench and make his contract a waste. also unlikely given how good the clips look. 2) hayward - great fit as a second scoring option and playmaker to james. would play well off of gordon/ryno. 3) milsapp - lesser option than the first 2 but would still be a legit second star. non-max guys (after we strike out on the 3 above) : 4) gallinari - obviously this is what will happen. MDA's italian connection. 5) george hill - combo guard would be great fit next to james. 6) gay - we know there is interest. 7) monroe - upgrade from nene. 8) redick - if the clippers break up, he just seems like a morey/MDA signing. 9) patty mills - upgrade from beverley 10) 2pat - behind ryno he ensures a stretch 4 on the court at all times. could also work as a small ball / 5-out center along side ryno. i bet just like last summer, instead of landing 1 big fish, we end up with 2 medium sized catches from the second group. gallinari + monroe seems so "rockets." would leave us with a roster like: capela-monroe ryno-harrell gallo-dekker KJ-gordon harden- (still no backup PG, guaranteed classic rockets move)
I am not on the DM the GM a go go bandwagon nor believe in its imminence. If GH were to sign elsewhere, yes, why would it not be in Beantown? CW says its the inevitable 'other choice'.
