You should draft BPA 95% of the time. The only times where you would draft for a need, would be if the "need" player is in the same tier list as the BPA, just slightly below them. Honestly, the rockets "needs", saying we re-sign Jet/Brewer/Smith and Llull accepts our offer, are not going to be met in the draft. We have a 2/3 rotation of Harden, Brewer, Ariza, Papa, a 4/5 rotation of Smith, Motie, Jones, Howard, Capela, and a 1 of Llull/Johnson/Jet. No rookie, no matter who he is, where he is drafted or what position he plays, is going to crack our rotation, nor is he specifically a "need". My feelings are that Johnson/Jones are shown the way out if indeed the 4 signee's are signed. Capela is going to get minutes this year, he has for sure earned them, and defines a role perfectly. Again with the DMo/Jones thing, I personally feel DMo fits our scheme better, and Jones has just been exposed a lot, not saying Motie hasnt at times. But, draft pick, baring any trade for an established player, would just not see play time this year, so, BPA is the only way to go.
We've had pretty good luck developing players in the DLeague. Aaron Brooks, TJ, DMo, Robert Covington (DLeague MVP, good work with the 76ers), Capela, hopefully Nick Johnson. I think we'll continue that idea, meaning we won't Draft for the current team.
I understand the need for PG or any other all-star caliber player that will make us better, but should we also be looking for another center? Or do ya'll feel that Capela or Dorsey get the job done as back ups?
If it's that low of a chance he's bettee then the other guy... Then the other guy is clearly better lol
So you just went from a sample size of 15, reduced by 4 because of Shaq, and then further made the caveat "if." I can by this reasoning say nearly every title this century had Tony Parker or a legit, 6-2 or taller starting PG. Don't over think this. Talent is talent. Otherwise, maybe the Rockets need to upgrade their 6-9 center who clearly lacks size to win.
