It's not like this guy is sitting out with a minor injury. I am most concerned with the team bringing him back too soon. You want him for this season and many season after. It is short sighted to rush him back and risk further injury.

And doesn't he still need ankle surgery?

The sky is not falling. We all knew there were shades of this before, and if you didn't, you were kidding yourself. It's the reason some people were skeptical on Clowney. If we all knew it, the Texans front office damn well knew it.

This is much ado about nothing. It's there. Everyone knows it. The Texans front office is counting on Watt and a new culture to change this kid. Let's hope it works.

If he is 90-95%, then he will likely take some snaps against Pittsburg.
Any player returning from injury will be eased back into it anyway.
Any body part that has not been used to it full potential will take time to get back all it's strength so Clowney likely won't be at full explosive potential until then.

That all sounds good. I just wonder if J.J. is one of the players who thinks he's a diva... It's one thing for us fans to have our opinions but when coaches and teammates are getting frustrated _ that's an entirely different animal.

Still plenty of games left to go though... But as of now _ the NFL world is falling in love with Blake Bortles.

Would've been better if there was sure-fire QB prospect to take at #1. Indy got that lucky iish, twice. Spurs got that lucky iiish in '97. Must be nice to suffer ONE bad season then reload, but this keeps happening in within Houston's divisions.. smh.

I don't want Clowney to play until he says he is 100% healthy. If he comes back before he thinks he is ready and then gets injured, he will blame it on the coaches and the team.

I don't want him to play if he's not 100%. What's so important about this steelers game in the big picture?

He already chose to have the tear removed instead of repaired so he could come back this year, even though having it repaired would probably be the best solution for the long term. No sense in rushing him back just so Texan fans can watch him play a week earlier.

He should be smart and be fully healed before he shakes that money maker.

Yea the coaches frustrated part doesn't bother me....of course they want him out there before he should be. He's the #1 pick he needs to be thought of long term instead of rushing him out there.

Now on the players calling him a diva, it could be bad but it really depends on what the context is and which players are saying it. Since we don't know and it would be stupid to knee-jerk or make assumptions I'll just say let's wait and see what happens in the next few weeks.

The tweets contradict themselves. First he says the coaches are getting mad then he says people think he is being babied.

So who is doing the "babying?"

You still have to remember that Braddock is a reporter and he's going to go with whatever story gets hits. For all we know "some players" could mean two. It's not necessarily indicative of the way the locker room really feels. Could be, but also could not. I wouldn't presume to think we could know the full story from only two tweets.

Exactly. And of course the Texans want to protect their investment. If you're some journeyman on a one-year contract, you bet your ass they're gonna treat Clowney differently than you, because you're expendable and not in the long term plans.

If you are a player you should be looking out for yourself. The team isn't going to think more than two seconds before cutting you, and the fans really don't care about the player. They just want him to play.

At least half the players in the league have a mentality that if their injury can get worse they'll sit and heal. It's part of the business.

I think Kearse in his prime sat a playoff game because it was his free agent year.

I don't have a problem with it. It is what it is.

Is there really any point in playing him if he doesn't feel he will be as effective as he can be?

At that point, he'll probably be no better than Mericlus out there... let him work through the soreness and get back out there once he feels he's at 100%.

If he can go, he'll go. If he can't, then he won't.

    Write that on the wall.

Hopefully we'll see him before the year is out so we can see what we got.

If this story is true, it says a lot of bad things about the coaching staff, also

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>&quot;When the trainer says he can come on the field, we'll work with him,&quot; Crennel about Clowney. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Texans?src=hash">#Texans</a></p>&mdash; Tania Ganguli (@taniaganguli) <a href="https://twitter.com/taniaganguli/status/522847578451615744">October 16, 2014</a></blockquote>
    <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

It sounds like it is the trainers keeping him out of practice, if that's true then the whole story is bunk.

Has a history of being injury prone.

Wants to be 100% before coming back.

Don't see whats wrong? On the contrary..
