I think he was a negative asset as soon as he was signed by Boston. Gordon Hayward is a nice player but never was he even close to being a 31 Million Dollar a year player. That is insane. He is the 6th highest paid player in the NBA, he makes more money than James Harden this year... Even pre injury he was no where near the 6th best player in the league. Not even sure he was top 30 player, and he's paid like one of the best... I don't see how they are getting out of this contract and he maybe the reason the Celtics don't win a championship.

He's one of those players where you like at 15 million a year, but anything higher than that you let him walk. Utah got better without him. The Celtics played better last year without him.

I mean, right now if you had your choice, who you got?

    Gordon Hayward
    or
    Otto Porter

Wow just wow......he made Utah first of all and then he is an Olympic gold medalist and a walking 25-5-5. A negative asset soon as he signed with Boston is hilarious my friend. Boston was a title favorite the moment the signed him.

Hayward is not a gold medalist

Gobert was more important to Utah’s success than he was

He was never a walking 25-5-5 or anywhere close to that

Boston has never been a title favorite

The problem is not what he was but what he is. Is he now a walking 25-5-5? Will he be by next season?
The risk of Boston is significant. If you pay 1/3 of your cap to someone performing like just a roleplayer then there goes any chance for a championship.

Seems like taking on his contract would be Ryan Anderson all over again

This could be a high reward move but could easily end up like chandler parsons level contract. The guy was very talented it’s hard to think that he just lost all that talent.

I feel like he was overpaid anyway even before the injury

He's going to be hard to move right now because he's still trying to play back into his pre-injury shape and is on minutes restriction. Teams will balk at his salary until he can rise to that pre-injury level, but he needs to stay in Boston and play this season out. Right now his value is low, and his risk and salary are too high.

if we give up gordon AND knight for hawyward id want rozier in return no matter what. giving up Gordon and knight for hayward only hurts our depth's strengths. then wed be out 2 guards and have to rely on back up ennis. no bueno

Could be Parsons-esque but Hayward strikes me as a guy who would actually take rehab seriously

This would work after Dec. 15th...just saying.

Nene, Knight, Chriss, Zhou Qi, Hartenstein and Melo for Hayward and an unprotected 1st from Boston

You make a good point, but maybe their success with the young wings last year makes for a different calculation. I think their timeline is accelerated with so many good players with contracts coming up and their desire to obtain Anthony Davis.

Can the Celtics go after KD if they get rid of GH? @BimaThug may be able to clarify that. I would imagine Hortford would have to waive his PO and other things.
