Link to the idea BOB only decides who plays?

From what i have read and seen, BOB has final roster say, that includes who we sign and draft for, not just who plays on game day. Rick signs the guys BOB wants.

    Let's just start with this:

BOB has full control and final say on who makes the 53 man roster.

Do we agree on that much?

BOB chooses from the pool that Rick presents to him. Do you disagree?

Since when is "trading up" a coaching move? So Rick isn't even responsible for trades now?

Sure... again, not sure what you're arguing here.

They all need to do a better job of deciding who to give out contract extensions to and who to acquire... if they aren't playing up to a certain level, there's no point in finding fault with the coach who chooses to then bench them.

    Agreed.

I'm not sure what we're arguing about then

I think you're arguing the fact that Rick doesn't do anything so why should he shoulder any of the blame.

So, to be clear - you still want BOB fired, but since the team is 6-5, that probably won't happen. Also, you think BOB isn't a good coach, but maybe a good coordinator.

We can't say the bad moves were Rick's fault and the good moves were the coaches. If Rick is responsible for Moore and Graham, then he is also responsible for Ryan Pickett and Quentin Demps.

Well you could if you actually knew who Rick pushed for and who O'B pushed for, maybe McNair knows.

Sort of. He should be fired for doing nothing. BOB should be fired if the roster sucks

I don't think BOB should have control over the 53 man roster and draft. He can be a good head coach if he doesn't have that final say

NO arguing Team BOB vs Team Smith, it useless because both have done an overall bad to below average job.

The difference, Smith has been doing a bad job much longer and so his ass needs to go yesterday. BOB should have another draft and another season at the very least.

    That's a fair opinion.

I just hope we stop trading up

Hard to argue with his decisions thus far... even if it takes him a few weeks/games to get it right.

This isn't some talent-rich roster to begin with... they got some key pieces at key positions, but they're largely devoid of depth thanks to years of mis-managed cap/draft issues, so if they're going to waste millions on players who can't play/don't fit... I want a talent evaluator who can figure that out and get suitable replacements prepared to take their place.

Certainly looks a lot better now.

My main points of contention are all the picks we traded away and the whole Mallet thing

How can you say that with the Hoyer-Mallet-Hoyer-Mallet game of musical chairs.
Or the fact that he kept playing Rahim Moore for 6 games.
Or keeping Jaelen Strong inactive even after he had a good game with 2 TD catches
Or cutting Charles James for a CB they never used.

We heard this exact same thing last offseason. The Texans last offseason considered promoting Brian Gaine to GM, in order to keep him in the Texans FO. In that scenario, Rick Smith would be promoted to an Executive VP position.

This seems the most likely. Make Smith VP of office supplies or something. Maybe he can swing a trade for swing line staplers.

Bottom line Rick had 10 years to shape the team and bring home a super bowl and failed at that goal, which should be the ONLY goal and measuring stick of a GM. A change of management brings a fresh attitude, perhaps new strategic business tools to incorporate, and a chance for new business talent to prove their worth. There is really no harm in changing GMs at this juncture and in fact should be demanded by any good CEO of a company. If you love Rick as a person and he does other things well I'm sure McNair can find another role he can excel at and keep collecting a pay
    check.
