I've told this story on the bbs before, but my friend who delivers for Mattress Mac said he ran some furniture to Steve's place and he gave the drivers a huge wad of cash as a tip and instructed them to deliver to another address, and when they got there, there was tons of dope and weapons all over the place. This was years ago, too. Guy is into some bad, bad stuff.
The way I read this was: You're at subway. Steve Franchise comes in asking for directions. You and everyone else there is shocked (as you should). He gets directions and leaves. Whats the concern? Plus, let's assume he on a Charlie Sheen binge, what are we or anyone else gonna do? I'm sure he know what he is doing. If he wants to change his lifestyle, he'll do it. Just so you know, I grew up watching him and was one one of his biggest fans. There will be no other player like Stevie Franchise. I'm more disappointed that you didn't get an autograph or helped him with directions. Rockets 4 life!

Personally, I liked his street-like game. His dunks and crossovers were always amazing, let's no forget the 2000 slam dunk contest - one of the best. Let's say he didn't have an accomplished career, but shouldn't rocket fans be greatful for what he was able to do. Come'on let go of all that hate.
That's precisely why I didn't like him. It's the NBA, not And 1. Eh, I don't hate the guy. I just hate how Rocket fans expectations have been lowered so much since the glory days of the mid-nineties. I guess that's what 1 playoff series win in 14 years can do to a fanbase. I'll stop now before everyone starts calling me old and bitter.
If you don't get how a houstonian of over 10 years can be on westheimer and not know where west Alabama is while looking messed up at 7 pm you're missing the whole point of him needing help for something not normal
You do know you can care about both - caring isn't an exclusive emotion. Plus, most of us feel capable of helping a person with a substance abuse problem, but I imagine only 1% of us feel capable of doing anything to cure cancer. So let's just keep things in perspective, and avoid comparisons that really don't make any sense. I was not a big fan of the Franchise, but I certainly don't like the idea of him (or anyone) tweaked out. If this thread leads to any kind of positive action, then that's a good thing.
I get the cross streets on Richmond and Westhiemer confused all the time and I've lived her for 20+ years. You saying I got a problem? He probably forgot his GPS at home heading to a party.
I don't know how credible this is, but when I waitressed last summer one of my older drug using/dealing coworkers had some mutual friends of Stevie and hung out/partied with him a few times. He said Stevie liked ecstasy. My coworker said he stopped hanging out with him because he was too crazy for his taste.
a few years back i mentioned on here that my cousin worked at the front desk of a luxury hotel on post oak and that steve francis came in drunk or high in the wee hours of the morning. he went off on the foreign valet/doorman calling them "arabs" and what not and told them to get the eff out of america. everyone gave me s&^t for it. and my cousin was a huge fan of his.
Little kids with cancer in hospitals don't wind up in SportsCenter highlights hence, nobody really cares. I'm with you about being more concerned with my own problems - my company is swirling the proverbial drain right now and the end is near. It's unfortunate to hear about this with Francis but it's not the first time that a former pro athlete has gone down this path.
Maybe it could mean that people who DO have room in their lives and hearts can lend support VOLUNTARILY if they choose (if Francis even cares, most importantly) I dont think it has to to mean everyone must PRIORITIZE RICH & FAMOUS people's lives over your OWN.
If you don't give a F then why invade this thread and say how you don't care? Doesn't help anyone or add to this topic.
Interesting comment on that site: Kinda funny/sad the idea of someone being really wasted and getting lost while trying to find the rehab clinic.
Whatever, he has a record label....I'm sure he's invested well... The guy likes to get ****ed up. Don't we all?
There are plenty of good people who have been taken down by heartbreak, financial issues, and addiction. With this often comes ostracism from most, if not all of those close to you. When folks sense you're too much of a wildcard (and out of money)they bolt. It's a sad and lonely place to be..a self perpetuating mechanism. It sounds like that's where Stevie's been for awhile....except with a little bread. That said, I promise you there is life on the other side for those willing to fight for it. It's not easy, but you can come out with the ability to live life deeper/fuller than most people can imagine, without taking anything for granted....sweet and sour thing.(I hope your reading this Stevie) However difficult the environment and circumstances, it's usually not too late. Every passing day is another chance to turn it all around. Though there might seem like a million miles between where you are now and where you want to be, don't lose yourself completely. It starts with a commitment/baby steps. Nobody's saying everything is going to be made right over night ...There IS help out there though. Make the call .....
