This has been a forgone conclusion for a while but it's now official. http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/news/newsid=625695.html It's seems like they've also gotten rid of the rotation system so North America isn't guaranteed to get the 2018 WC.
While my wife went shopping at the Hippie Fair in Rio, I sat and drank a Skoal and the dude lasted 45 minutes without dropping the ball. Thats probably where you saw him.
I'm hoping to go to this one. I have FIFA connections through work...assuming I still work here in 6.5 years. I think 2018 will be between US and England. I think England deserves it (inventors of the beautiful game, haven't had the cup since 1966), but naturally, I'd love to see it here. I'd be willing to bet that the US gets either 2018 or 2022.
That's exactly where I saw him!...at the weekly (on sundays) bazaar right near copacabana beach, right?...how random
Never. Europe has never won when it's been outside of Europe. Interestingly enough, Brazil are the only World Cup champion who haven't won while hosting the competition. Also, this looks like it's going to be a trainwreck. I don't think Brazil has the infrastructure to support the 18-stadium plan they've put forth, because they didn't have any competition in the bidding process their bid looks incomplete - and I'm not sure Brazilian football can afford the white elephant stadiums the World Cup will leave behind. All that being said, a World Cup Final in the Maracanã would be superb.
DAMN! I'm gonna start saving up now! I can already imagine the sexy parties all night long. I'll be 28 by then.. hmm.. still in my prime.
I believe the 18 cities that have submitted stuff are only trying to get games there, when it's all said and done only 10-12 cities will actually host games. I'm not familiar enough with their stadium situation to know how many of those cities have stadiums that can be used or can afford to build/upgrade stadiums though.
I believe it was FIFA that wanted to limit them to 12 stadiums, but the Brazilian FA wants to play it in 18 stadiums so that they can spread the games around to each part of the country - partly to make up for some of the snubs in the last qualification cycle.
Not before MEXICO, US won't, but maybe ENGLAND will. Sorry, but I don't see the Estados Unidos hosting a cup sooner than more soccer-friendly places. Ok, ok, throw Mexico out, and you've got countries like Italy, Spain, Portugal, and even Germany again, hosting the big games before the EE.UU. It's not hatorade, it's truthorade. Edit: I still don't know why Argentina or Colombia didn't stay in the bids... they would have been great hosts beside BRAZIL. Nothing against either country... but... at least put your bid in... you know? Congratulations, Brasileiros.
