Beverley/ Johnson combo gonna take the league by storm ... Also a lil Papanikolau at point forward . I'm ready for it !!!!
Point Guard Issue That was James Harden battle cry this past season, "get me some help". We didn't do it and I feel we're going to pay for it one way or another. We needed a point guard a true point guard, and the rockets are going to get burnt for it by not addressing this in the draft or free agency. It will be interesting to see what they do. I also think we need to look at Seth Curry. He may not be as good as his brother, Steph, but any Curry at this point would be an upgrade in comparison to what we have. We need to seriously look at Seth Curry. That is a shooting family.
That still doesn't mean we need a traditional PG. We need a combo PG/SG type player that can play off ball. Harden is the one who should have the ball in his hands 70% of the time.
Honestly I really think its best to go with the best offensive player available. Completely ignore defense. Why? 1. Curry - Can't be stopped. 2. Westbrook - Can't be stopped. 3. Paul - Can't be stopped. 4. Lillard - Offensive force. 5. Parker - Offensive force. It doesn't matter who is guarding these guys, great offensive players beat great defenders more often then not. I'm 100% on board with a guy who is amazingly gifted offensively and can't do much on defense.
Now that we have the recent spate of contracts given out, how do those Lawson and Rubio contracts look in retrospect?
You guys should be praying the 2015 salary cap comes in less than the rumored 69million and instead at the previously projected 67 million. If it comes in at 69 million, the spurs won't need to relinquish their cap hold on Patty Mills in the event they sign Aldridge. But if it does come in at under 69 million, the spurs will need to trade/waive Mills to fit Aldridge's 20+ million contract under the cap. Patty Mills IMO is perfect for the Rockets. Dude can shoot lights out. Doesn't need to handle the ball, can spot up, run pick rolls and play decent defense.
He allegedly said "get me some guard help." Not sure that he meant "to dribble the ball across mid-court." He faces little defensive pressure walking the ball across the mid-court line. He faces enormous pressure, including double-teams, when he is ball handling within the offensive structure-- which is virtually every possession. Seems to me that he is a great-passer out of double -teams-- the final moment at GS notwithstanding. An offensively incompetent teammate put him in a terrible predicament on that one. I thought Jason Terry would be the guy but he disappointed me. The team still seems to love him so maybe he'll round back into form.
Malakas how do you think the rockets would have done hypothetically if they had Collison as their PG for the playoffs with their playoff roster minus Nick Johnson?
Won more games vs the warriors for sure. Dont know if win the series and reach the finals. Harden wouldnt have made so many turnovers. And that would make such a huge difference especially in those last possesions that costs games. Obviously even with bev in the roster collison would start because collison is that much better. Hes not some kind of superstar but hes fine pg. I would prefer if we had the luxury for him to be our backup pg behind say lawson then we would be the clear no.1 contenders.
Personally I think if the rockets had rolled out Collison as a starter and Beverly off the bench with the current playoff roster they would have had a real chance to have beaten GS. The first two games were very winnable in that series and Harden would have not had to be superman at times in the playoffs and for all of the regular season for them to win. Collison would be a nice pickup for Houston if he's attainable and adding Stuckey if they were to lose Beverly would be fine by me. Addressing the PG position this off season should be priority #1 for the rockets.
