...As a first time home buyer in 2010 under the stimulas plan. That is a big chunk of free money. I'm not sure what to do with it and need suggestion. I'm not married, have no kids, just got a new house, no car payment, no credit card payment.

What would you use the money toward? Just save it or maybe use it all on the house?

Cmon guys I'm being realistic and serious here. This is not leisure money and I won't blow it off on something that is on non-productive. It needs to benefit me in the long run and possibly make more money off of it.

There's nothing you've wanted to do or buy, but couldn't? Maybe use part of it on a trip/cruise somewhere, or buy something you've always wanted. If nothing else, than I would use half of it towards the house payment and save the rest.

seriously, max out your IRA, if you don't already have one, which will be $5000 if your single. add the other $3000 to your emergency fund. don't be dumb and spend it all.

There's only one answer. Put it in your savings account.

Use it later on to purchase a whole life insurance policy when you have a wife and kids. Save for future kids education or retirment or repairs on the home. I'd pretend like you never received that money for now.

This. But wait until the negotiations over the debt ceiling are over. If the U.S. defaults on its debts the markets will crater and you'll want to wait until it gets close to bottom.

Buy gold, or do what I do and buy some silver. It's much cheaper and has much more room to grow in the next few years. Read up on it if you're not sure. Just over the last 14 months or so, it's gone up about 300%, certainly better than an average of 3-8%.

I do suggest you take some of it and make sure your essentials are in good condition. Take your car to the shop and have them look it over and fix anything that could potentially be a problem in the near future. Go the Dr's and get a full check up. Best feeling is when you know your health, your ride, and your house are all in excellent condition.

You have just enough money for the threshold of unregulated derivatives trading, quick, before Frank-Dodd seizes you of the opportunity of betting on the failure of nation-states!
