Good for them, but like most here, I don't think that says much about them being great coaches. Kubiak is an offensive guy, and the Broncos O isn't near what it was before (Manning's health/age being a major factor) and Phillips Defenses have always done well early to suddenly fall off a cliff in future seasons. Denver has more talent on D than the Texans had.
Should of fired Smith and kept Kubiak. Is BOB really a better "QB Guru" and more of an offensive genius than Kubes?

how was this going to happen though? since schaubie was kubiak's guy? our downfall had 100% with schaubie's arm getting eaten off. another thing people forget is that rick smith was brought in by kubiak to be his kubesminion. It was actually pure genius by kubiak and they say hoodie is a conniving sob. But somewhere along the lines, rick smith rebelled and decided to be mcnair's minion. So after that experience, I laugh when the local experts say B.O.B is going to get his guy at GM. Not going to happen. Kubiak ruined it for all future coaches that may come through here. On your second point. I agree with you. Kubiak's offense is lovely when executed. It can never go out of style. I bet it could even send hoyer to a pro bowl, just because it protects the qb from himself. The last thing anyone needs to see is Hoyer or fitzie in an empty backfield, shotgun with the D teeing up. But B.O.B has shown he can adapt. Once he gets over the recycled patriots garbage fetish he has, we will take the next step. He is already ahead of where kubes was in his second year, even if its with kubes players. it has to count for something.
Kubiak would have found a better QB solution than what BOB did. Remember he traded for Schaub after one year with Carr. He would not have wasted a pick on a QB worse than VY or Tebow in Mallett. And I'm not convinced Schaub was Kubiaks guy after the foot injury. Everyone assumed Schaub wouldn't be extended during the season, then suddenly there's a Rick-McNair conference extending him. Even Schaub was surprised. You're right though that Schaub was the downfall of that team and that Kubes brought Rick here. His worst mistake
Texans traded a 7th round pick for Mallett. In 2008 Kubiak selected Alex Brink QB Washington State in the 7th round. So yes, he wasted one of the highly valuable 7th round picks on a QB worse than Mallett.
You "disrespected" Cushing by reducing 2015 as his first positive impact since 2011 Cushing was ballin in 2012, before he got hurt. Coming off major injury, he was ballin in 2013 before he got hurt again. Cushing's only subpar seasons were '10 and '14. Otherwise, he's always balled.
Wade Philips should get a ton of credit for executing a great defensive game plan and totally harassed Brady the entire game. However, people on this board need to temper some of this effusive praise that Kubiak is getting. If it werent for that defense, AND the fact that their kicker missed his 1st extra point of the season...which turned out to be the difference in the game...the Broncos wouldve have been beat in the overtime. Brady and the Patriots get better during the course of games. He has proven this time and time again. Last Sunday was NO different. The Patriots were able to drive the ball down the field 3 times in the last 5:30 of the game...AND basically held onto the timeouts till the last drive.
Exactly. OP is trying to paint a picture where Kubiak out-coached Belichick. That did NOT happen. What did happen was Peyton looked GREAT in the first few drives of the game, the Patriots faltered against that badass defense (badass PERSONNEL leads to badass COACHING) in the first 3 quarters, and the Broncos were able to hold steady. Does Kubiak deserve credit? Absolutely. Does this prove that he's some offensive genius that was wronged by getting ousted here? Absolutely not.
Belichick/McDaniels made the mistake of completely abandoning the run game... that pretty much plays into any scheme that Wade has, since his entire defensive playbook involves getting pressure on the QB regardless of the check-downs/RB's/deep balls. They knew the Patriots weren't going to try and force it with half-retired Steven Jackson and 5th string RB's. They also knew that Brady's previous go-to agains the Wade defense (the RB split-out that has to be covered by a LB) was a limited weapon, as James White is not the same as Shane Vereen. They did limit the hurry up, which was also a mistake... allowed Ware/Miller to time Brady's snap-count perfectly. In the end, that's about as rattled as you'll ever get Brady/Pats... but it was just as much a limited personnel/poor offensive game-plan as it was stellar defense.
Kubiak is 2-0 against Belichick this year; won the first game with Brock Osweiler starting. He's a good coach; his fatal flaw here was not hiring an experienced coordinator to build a defensive system that supplemented what he was doing on offense. I mean, look at the talent he acquired on offense here; it's impressive.
Agree 100%. Their error allowed Wade to dictate the course of the game and thereby give Denver the advantage. In championship game settings it's little things like that can be the difference between victory and defeat.
