    It just seems like airplane flys alot higher above ground than just 8miles

    velocity is the first integral, not derivative of acceleration.

    I'm sure you knew what he meant. the context of the discussion is terminal velocity, which by definition is speed in one direction.

    Most commericial flights fly in the 30,000 - 36,000 foot range.

    I'm sure he'll be collecting royalties from a tv shows, books, etc. Prolly nothing that will set him up for life, but then again, I don't think he is doing this for financial reasons.
