This seems like a stat that isn't doing much work. Most #1 overall picks will stick around in the league for >10 years even if they were a bust.

Since 1980, how many top picks have been NBA champions?

 Joe Carroll--0 championships
 Mark Aguirre--2 championships
 James Worthy--3
 Ralph Sampson--0
 Hakeem Olajuwon--2
 Patrick Ewing--0
 Brad Daugherty--0
 David Robinson--2
 Danny Manning--0
 Pervis Ellison--0
 Derrick Coleman--0
 Larry Johnson--0
 Shaquille O'Neal--4
 Chris Webber--0
 Glenn Robinson--1
 Joe Smith--0
 Allen Iverson--0
 Tim Duncan--5
 Michael Olowokandi--0
 Elton Brand--0
 Kenyon Martin--0
 Kwame Brown--0
 Yao Ming--0
 LeBron James--2
 Dwight Howard--0
 Andrew Bogut--0
 Andrea Bargnani--0
 Greg Oden--0
 Derrick Rose--0
 Blake Griffin--0
 John Wall--0
 Kyrie Irving--0
 Anthony Davis--0
 Anthony Bennett--0

So out of the past 34 #1 overall picks, 8 have won one or more championships. 8/34=24%... Basically what you are saying is if you have LeBron, Duncan, Shaq, Robinson, Olajuwon, Worthy, or Aguirre you have a good chance of winning a championship (I didn't include Glenn Robinson as he got a gift of a title).

Without your exceptions #1 draft picks are responsible for 21/34 of the past championships. Not really that impressive given that there are 12 (correct me if I'm wrong) teams with active #1 picks.

I still refuse to believe that Kenyon Martin was a #1 overall pick

Just think "Michael Olowokandi" and you'll believe.
