You most certainly are, sunshine. Go ahead act as if short term year to year expectations are all that matter to you. So I guess you expect next year David Carr will be here doing a great job and the Texans will be contenders ... on schedule. What about the long-term goals that were expressed ... that by the 5th year they'd be competing for the play-offs? Guess you're just giddy about how they sucked last year and how they've improved so dramaticly. Wow 100% improvement in won-loss record so far. Impressive . And David Carr looks great. McNair is a genius ... Texans have made Rocketman95 very happy. Like I wrote earlier "smart people would just rather leave the room" than stay and smell the bullsh!t.
Good job. You hit the hammer right on the head there. Kudos. Now, for extra credit, please find any post where I say I'm happy with how the season's gone, that I currently think David Carr is great or that McNair is a genius. For extra special points, please find where I said that only short-term expectations are all that matter to me. Toodles.
you know... the more i think about, the more i'm thinking this might very well be total, complete bull****. not that reeves said it on the radio show, but that he ever told the texans they should take vince young. i'm just not buying; young was never on their radar; they never showed more than a passing interest in him... i mean, reeves obviously pitched kubiak to mcnair; that was practically a done deal the minute reeves was brought in... but kubiak wasn't on the same page as reeves, re: the QB?.... seems a little dubious that reeves felt this info was suddenly relevant after young rips off 4 straight wins.... someone bucking for a job....? so, did they ask dan reeves the same question when they hired him...?
My impression of the whole Dan Reeves' consultation was that Reeves wanted the head coaching job for himself. Ric is right about this one, however, VY wasn't on the radar for the pre-draft Texans, Reggie Bush was.
Dan Reeves said in April 2006 how much he liked VY. http://blogs.rockymountainnews.com/denver/homefield/2006/04/
I think David Carr should start until someone beats him out. And I don't see that likely for a year or more. The Texans best bet is to add offensive playmakers and OL while they infuse the whole defense. In other words David Carr may not be one of the biggest couple of problems. Since there isn't a VY in this draft (someone who can make plays without a lot of support), as somewhat of an outsider I think the Texans should still just stick with Carr unless a flyer pans out as better. I wouldn't try a major contract to a guy like Plummer/Warner/Bledsoe or spend an early 1st on a QB.
Carr is a terrible QB. I saw a stat that he leads the NFL in completion percentage....wooo hoooo. I guess he would if all he throws are 3 yard passes. He has no pocket presence, no feel for the big play and he is scared. He plays not to lose, he doesnt play to win. Jeeeeeeeeez we should have Vince, but oh well right, no reason crying over spilt milk. God I hope we dont get Jake Plummer. Matt Schaub would be a nice fit i think.
I just think he might suceed somewhere else. He's not a bad player, just more in the mold of Kerry Collins and Trent Dilfer. Not saying you cant win, but those guys needs everything perfect for them to suceed. Many thought he had the whole package especially this season with those overblown 4th qt numbers. It just seem like when the team really needs a play , he doesn't make it. The Cowboys,Colts and Jets games were in the balance and he did nothing. The cowboys he through a pick, the colts he did nothing and the jets after a answer in the 2nd half by the jets he let the team to a pick and 3 3 and outs. I think Kubiak will probably play the have a open competition between the guy from denver and rosenthals and trade carr for maybe a 3rd that can go to a 2nd.
I agree with your assessment. I think Carr can play but he needs more talent around him to be successful and a change in scenery. Where the Texans screwed up was taking Carr in the first place. Taking a QB early on was dumb. If you want a championship team you need to be able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. We should have invested heavily in O and D line through FA and the draft early on. Trading for Babin was dumb, not cause he can't play, but giving up 3 picks on a team needing talent on both sides of the ball was stupid. I hope Babin can turn into an effective 3rd down pass rush specialist in the future, and giving up 3 picks for a situational player is dumb. Hopefully the new regime will bring in better players in the future.
They don't grown on trees, they are not even available every year via the draft or FA. The chance to do that was last year. Now if Troy Smith slips to the 2nd round I take him. But the odds 2nd round QBs, including if Smith falls that far, pan out better than a Carr is not great. In short I think it is easier to add skill position playmakers around Carr (AP, Calvin Johnson?) than to add a playmaking QB who is a significant upgrade over Carr.
a la the Lions and Joey Harrington, I think both sides would be best off with a parting of ways. For no other reason than the fact that the fan base has fully turned on him and I have to wonder if the locker room has as well. Evan
I voted to Keep him, but now I would like to vote to get rid of him. I don't know how Carr could possibly improve here. He's had five years and he still makes the exact same mistakes. The offensive line is terrible, but he should have learned to adapt by now.
Can you even imagine them bringing this guy back next year as the starter?? I seriously can't imagine it. Even as stupid as the Texans have been in so many decisions...I just can't see them doing that. John McLain said in his blog today: (paraphrased) "I have no idea how the Texans will expect to sell tickets if they trot DC out again as the starter next season. "
