Yeah, chuck's offense took a hit a while back and seems to just have returned to "normal". It could be due to the inconsistency within the rotation and his change in position forced by injuries to players and roster changes.

How much preparation did they do off the court?

On the court, were they practicing hard with the team, but simply not putting in overtime? Overtime during the season, but not enough work during the offseason? No work at all during the offseason?

Personally i haven't bashed tmac about this because the guy was still an all-star. Had it not been for injuries, he 'd be a hall of famer for sure. If you look at all the bad moments, they were all related to injury. The difference here wouldn't be between being an ok player and a great one, but rather a very good one and a great one. It's hard to know and argue how much better he really could have been. Is JVG saying he just didn't really practice or he didn't practice a million hours extra like Kobe bryant? There's definitely a difference. If he was already a very good player and did work during his "40 hrs" a week, then I don't see why he should be bashed. It's unfortunate that he didnt want to be even better, but it's not exactly being lazy or not doing his job.

Some of the same applies to battier. Is JVG saying he didnt put in any work on his own outside of practice? Or that he just wasn't working on it for hours and hours? For some reason, this has been translated to "battier doesn't do anything to get better", but it seems to me like he just shifted his focus on defense more.
His mistake would be focusing too much on that end, but not necessarily failing to put in any extra time. For all we know he left the gym to go over playbooks and stats, and not "personal time".

Whatever the case may be, we have to remember it's a job. Some work doing what they love and go above and beyond what's required. Other's dont, but that doesn't mean they weren't good employees. I'm sure there's a lot of us who are good, even great, employees and don't bring our work home.

Both Morey and Van Gundy always come across as being extremely childish, immature, and petty individuals. They are the kind of bosses that people hate with an extreme passion.

I'd assume Battier had full practices.

A while back Clutch mentioned McGrady being allowed half practices under JVG. The other half he'd watch the team sitting in a "director's chair".

Shades of Barkley spending more time in the hot tub than the practice court in Phoenix.

Says something that they were still that good they could get away with it.

Doc Rivers really indoctrinated a lot of these habits into McGrady in Orlando, giving him all the power and freedom he wanted.
