Is anyone surprised by this?? More than any sport, NBA basketball has guys taking nights off quite regularly. I think it's largely a product of a league where people realize how unimportant any one regular season game is when you play 82 games and more teams make the playoffs than don't. I had season tickets with my father during the championship runs. Robert Horry used to make me pull my hair out, because he took the regular season so lightly. You'd pay big money for those tickets...only to watch guys walk up court and not give a full effort. The urgency just isn't there, night to night. Again...too many games for a league where everyone makes the playoffs. And then it's always compared dramatically with production in the post-season, particularly with players like Horry. It was like he was a brand new player. Honestly...it makes investing in season tickets very questionable.
Remember when Steve played for the Suns the first time?? I'm not saying its OK, but when we drafted Othella Harrington he looked like we had the better pick for a few seconds because the word on Steve was he wasnt giving his all...
Can you see Jordan or Dream or Malone or Stockton or Magic or Bird ever say anything like this? Typical NBA player today.
I'm sure those guys had their problems at the age of 25. Jordan and Dream in particular were ballhogs. McGrady is not.
I seriously wonder how some of you guys who are saying nothings wrong with TMac's quote would react if he pulled the same crap here. This is the equivalent of Randy Moss' "I play when I want to play" remark
