Nice find. Thanks for the post. "I think Ron's a fan of James Joyce: He talks in streams of consciousness," says Battier. "I don't think Ron's concerned about being a diplomat. He's concerned about winning, and the quickest route for him to win is to be blunt." Only Battier . . .
Nice feel good article about Ron. At times, though, this writer proves that the national sports media knows little about the teams that don't wear green or yellow. He implies that we weren't a defensive-oriented team before Artest. He also lists Scola as one of our best defenders. And how many times are these writers going to blame Ron for starting the Palace Brawl? The brawl was started by an overreaction by Ben Wallace after a foul and r****ded people from Detroit throwing stuff at NBA players.
Didn't you know? The Rockets were runnin' and gunnin' before Artest showed up and Tracy went down. The Rockets went from being the Phoenix Suns of a few years ago to being the Knicks of the early 90s.
Battier, for one, would like to keep him around. "After this year, my lasting memory of Ron Artest is, he loves the KissCam," says Battier, referring to the timeout entertainment in which couples in the stands are shown on the arena jumbotron and prompted to smooch. "We'll be in the middle of a game and we're all focused, and I'll look over at Ron, and Ron will be on the floor cracking up laughing at the KissCam. We've all seen it a million times, but every time he finds it the funniest thing ever." definately great all the way around
I have questions about his game but there is no denying we would be hurting if he was not part of the team. Nice article, he sure is the people's champ.
I have man love for Ron Artest. I love guys that play with passion and heart. Ron is no worse than Dream was when he was young. I remember Dream getting into quite a few fights. The sampson miracle shot would not have happened it wasn't for Dream getting into a fight minutes earlier.
Great article. Things I like about Ron: - He's blunt. - He plays on a court with a pole at half-court in NYC. - He got strong eating "milk and jell-o" (specifically RED jell-o). - Has a studio in his car. I'm sure there are other personal traits I like too, I just can't think of them at the moment.
Great article, great player. Just like Manny being Manny is unpredictable and sometimes he can destroy a clubhouse, other times he wins 2 championships for you or hits .390 in half a season. Artest is unpredictable, but he helps his team win as much as anyone on our team.
I don't really like the Manny comparison. Sure they're both quirky, but Manny strikes me as a self-centered egomaniac who only cares about himself. Artest seems to have matured and gained both empathy and perspective. Part of this might be due to the fact that unlike Manny, Artest has been held accountable for his actions and grown from the experience.
Man we need to see these kinds of articles more, which can show us the real character of a player and make the player seem more of a complete person to us.
