[SI] Rockets Have Better Offers For McGrady Than New York

    Didnt see this posted...

While the Knicks continue to pursue Tracy McGrady, informed sources warn that New York remains low on Houston's list of trade partners. The framework involves Houston shipping McGrady and power forward Joey Dorsey to the Knicks for Al Harrington, Jared Jeffries and Jordan Hill.

However, sources with knowledge of the talk say the Rockets have received multiple offers for McGrady that they have deemed better than the Knicks'. A source said that Jeffries -- who is owed $6.9 million next season with a $2 million trade kicker -- is a major sticking point for Houston's front office.

Acquiring Jeffries would effectively kill any chance Houston would have of signing a top free agent in the offseason.

Uhhh... even if Jeffries expired we wouldn't be able to sign a "top free agent". With Jeffries we're unable to sign ANY free agents except our own (Scola/Lowry).

Depends. If you can move some money off the books, it's possible, though still unlikely. There are also sign and trades. It also depends how you define "top". Are there "top" free agents who won't make the max?

We've heard all these rumors about Chicago, but never much about the players involved. IIRC, the Rockets had wanted Noah in the discussions and the Bulls balked. Now talks are being reopened..

Has Chicago changed it's stance on dealing Noah?

It doesn't make much sense for Tyrus to be the centerpiece of the deal, as he's in line for a raise/new deal this summer and we have Scola/Landry at that position.

Someone from the Chronicle said that Luol Deng has not been a part of any discussions.

Is Derek Rose still untouchable, even in the face of Aaron Brooks development?

James Johnson would fit the "young prospect" mold, was drafted in the mid-1st last year and has received little playing time so far (much like Hill..). Maybe they're offering Johnson/1st if the Rockets take back Salmons and expirings?

It's been reported Deng, Hinrich dont interest them. Rose, Noah untouchable. Someone in the Knicks thread said David Aldridge said a Rockets deal wouldn't be Ty Thomas. Gotta be Salmons, Miller.

    Unless they re-thought Noah.

If it's Salmons, I'm wondering what else is coming our way. James Johnson? 2010 1st rounder? Future 1st? The more I think about it, the more I think Chicago's 2010 1st rounder HAS to be included - that will be anywhere from 15-17 most likely. That's guaranteed mid-round lottery pick, whereas the Knicks offer could be late picks if they succeed in luring free agents.

By the way, these "better offers" have smokescreen written all over them. Let Walsh think we can do better, and squeeze more out of him. McGrady/Dorsey for Jeffries/Harrington/Hill/draft picks? Yes please.

If its only Salmons, Miller that could have been done long ago. Hopefully it's much more

They may not be much of anything. SI didn't mention any picks, so almost anything would be better than jeffries/hill/harrington. Even letting Tracy expire would be better. But I doubt the Rockets have better offers than jeffries/hill/harrington + multiple potential lottery picks.
