I agree that our 2nd-4th round picks are constantly awful. But I also believe that we would've picked players we wanted more if we had better draft position. What happens if we win the division? We go into the playoffs to get blown out. This team is far from winning in the playoffs.
Doesn't matter. Get to the playoffs at all costs. That's what I want to see from my team. There will still be a quarterback available at that pick. I haven't seen a quarterback separate himself from the pack yet, but there are three good ones at least. We'll have our shot whether we make the playoffs or not.
Oh yeah? Care to explain what they did in the 2014 draft then? Its single-handedly the reason why this regime could be gone after just 2 years.
i'm never for tanking. if you just happen to suck, then that's a different story. so which OLB are we going to go with in the 1st pick?
XSF was a clear whiff. We haven't had much production out of CJ other than as a blocker. Our talent evaluation is pretty bad, and whoever is responsible for that should be canned. People blame Rick Smith, others say those were BOB's picks. I just know that we've had a history of poor mid-round picks, and Rick Smith is a constant in all of them. Better draft position isn't guaranteed, but if it improves our chances from 10% to 15%, I say why not? What do we have to gain from not tanking?
You forgot about Nix... Strong... the three guys they selected the year before... its a litany of players that they've failed on (even in the "good" years), which is the biggest reason as to why they are where they are. Also... You put a bunch of hungry backups in (which I presume you do when you're "trying" to tank), they probably end up doing better than what the starters showed today. So, like I said originally... this team doesn't even have to try to tank. And regardless of where they draft, they have to do a better job there... your 10-15% difference is pretty much negligible.
When you trade multiple picks to get a guy who ends up showing up to camp out of shape, can't learn the playbook, and unable to make the opening day roster... its ok to make preliminary judgements. Especially with the track record of mid-round picks precedence this team has already set. Posey is still available... somewhere out there.
The guy who (IIRC) is second on the team in receiving touchdowns (tied)?! I'm not ready to call him a bust yet.
With Foster out and the QBs looking like they could get beat out by an open tryout, I'm not sure if it matters if they try to tank or not. Winning an extra game or two this year isn't going to accomplish anything. Time to "tank"!
I can't wait for our next highly touted OLB that we waste on a first overall pick that will contribute 0 future wins to the team.
Cut Mallet, trade for Keenum and start him next Sunday. We'll be in first place after next weekends games.
