You can say a lot about Les but saying he doesn't want to win championships doesn't make sense. The dude is already rich. People put Le$ but I always find it ironic because he gives a lot of money to charity and has been pretty willing to pay out. The reason they don't spend money is to avoid the hard cap and leave room for maneuvering. He may not know a lot about basketball, but very few owners do.
You have to admit that he is getting grumpier, more meddling in the biz than he should year by year. His winning season above everything else motto is going to waste this team's potential. Instead of going through a couple of bad seasons he rolls the dice on players that have been out of the league or cheaper ones.
How badly does he want to win championships? I seriously question his commitment. Of course if you handed the guy the Larry O'Brien trophy, he wouldn't turn it down. But is he really willing to do the necessary things to build a contender? And I don't even mean going over the luxury tax. I'm talking about having the patience and willingness to go through the pains of a slow rebuild. Is he willing to suffer through a bad season in order to acquire a high lottery pick? Is he willing to grant leeway to a coach to play young guys and allow them time to grow and mature as players? Is he willing to sit on capspace and wait a season or two for the right free agent to come along? Based on Les' track record, the answer to all of those is no. Does anyone seriously think he's willing to sacrifice the 2016-17 season in order to add a great young prospect to this team via the draft? Does anyone think he'll hire a coach who will favor playing KJ McDaniels over Trevor Ariza? Does anyone think if the Rockets strike out on Durant, Horford, and Conley, that Les won't panic and throw 15-20 mil at a 2nd or 3rd tier free agent so he can claim he made a "splash"? The man's always tried to go for the quick fix in nearly a quarter century of owning this team. And I think the results speak for themselves.
How many owners have won the NBA championship since 1996, anyways? Jerry Reinsdorf of the Chicago Bulls Peter Holt of the San Antonio Spurs Jerry Buss (RIP) of the Los Angeles Lakers Bill Davidson (RIP) of the Detroit Pistons Micky Arison of the Miami Heat Multiple people of the Boston Celtics Mark Cuban of the Dallas Mavericks Joe Lacob of the Golden State Warriors Are people really upset that the Rockets aren't apart of this group? Are people really saying that Leslie Alexander doesn't want to win or his method is wrong? That he should rebould and go through multiple lottery seasons? You guys do know that there is no "correct" method. You can't build through the draft like the Spurs, Thunder, or Warriors because for every team like that there are the Wolves, Kings, and Philadelphia. You can't always try to sign the big free agents because for every Miami Heat there's us. Can't even always make big trades because for every Celtics there are the 2013 Lakers. There is no correct way to build a team. You just got to do the best thing you possibly can at the given moment with all the current information given. You guys act as if Les hasn't been trying his hardest to build a winning team since 1996. You guys act like he didn't go and get Barkley. Or like he didn't go and trade for Steve Francis. Or the team didn't suck and he got the #1 pick and drafted Yao Ming. Like he didn't go and hire a coach that was very respected and went to the finals before in JVG. Like he didn't trade Steve Francis for Tracy McGrady who at the time was very respected before his body broke down. Like he didn't lose both McGrady and Yao multiple times to injuries and went and hired another well respected coach in Rick. Like he didn't finally lose McGrady and Yao, and was stuck with nothing. Like he didn't make James Harden out of nothing. Like he didn't go and sign a free agent that every other team was trying to sign in Dwight Howard. Like he didn't try his hardest to keep improving the team. You guys are acting like Les isn't acting to improve the team. Calling him Le$ because yall think he's cheap. You idiots. You can't be cheap when you have money like he does. You guys act like if you don't hit the luxury tax you're cheap and a bad owner, but I guess the owner of the Spurs is cheap, right? You guys act like if you spend a lot of money you're not cheap and you're a great owner, so I guess the owner of the Knicks or Nets is ****ing great. They have a combined 0 championship since James Dolan has become executive chairman of the Madison Square Garden company. You guys just love to complain about a whole bunch of nothing. If it were easy to win in this league then everyone would be doing it! If it was so easy to win then the Nuggets would be champions last season. It's not easy. These guys are trying their hardest while at the same time not doing dumb things like Mark Cuban, Vivek Ranadive, or Jerry Reinsdorf. You know how many people hate Jerry? He's what you guys think that Leslie Alexander is. Do you know how incompetent Vivek has been? He's how incompetent you guys think Les is. Mark Cuban is BASICALLY Les Alexander. Both inherited their superstars in Dirk and Hakeem, but the only difference is that Hakeem is long gone and Cuban is still riding Dirk. Cuban broke up a championship team. Leslie IMPROVED on a championship team. Leslie isn't perfect, but by no means is he a terrible owner who should sell a team to some unknown party! Why would you sell the team to some unknown party when you already know what you have?? Dumb!
Of course, his big name chasing ass will never get us anywhere. He could never hire a Messina or former Rockets player without HC experience. He's an evil p***y!!
Only if, in the event of your marriage, I'm allowed to exercise my right of prima nocta. And yes, I think Les should sell the team unless we're going to get a Jim Crane low budget type owner, then no.
