Can't be done. But you can agree to a buyout - however it will still hit your salary cap.

Trevor Ariza is a horrible player. Put him next to Kobe on a championship team, ok role player. Anywhere else he's horrible, on a horrible contract. Which would be even worse since McHale would probably play him, which limits minutes for Parsons and potentially Morris.

Okafor is overpaid, but gets you thinking. Dalembert for Okafor + #10. I think given the deal that is presented there, you would ask for more. Meaning New Orleans is really getting some serious cap relief, if they want it. I'd ask for one of Jason Smith, Xavier Henry or Gustavo Ayon as well.

No effing way. The 10th pick is not worth a garbage contract

If this is true, I think the Hornets are making a serioius mistake. They should take Lillard right there and keep trucking, let Davis and Lillard grow together like the Thunder did with Durant and Westbrook. They should take one more season to go to the lottery and see if they can pull out one more player with great potential instead of try to make the playoffs this next season.

    But whatever.

But, it is only 2 years of a garbage contract. I'm with jo; I don't know why NO would look to do this trade.

Okafor is no garbage, he's just slightly overpaid, and if we can acquire him + the 10th pick for Dalembert or Martin, i'd be ok. He's a 12pts/10rbds/2blks carrer guy, he'd be a good defensive presence inside. i dont think we'll hit a homerun with Deron Williams or Dwight Howard, so i'll settle for this kind of deals ... with three lotto picks we should be able to draft good players or move up

No thank you, there are higher picks available at a lesser price in terms of taking on a bad contract.

Wow, cap space got you #8 last year(turn out to be #1), and can get #10 this year in a deep draft--meaning Lillard or Henson! Cap space do wonders!

Because they are looking to tank again next season. They see the OKC way and are going to want another top 3 prospect to play along side Davis.

Sonic tanked by using their capspace to take on bad contracts for draft picks. NO is doing it wrong.

Morey needs to take Ariza back just so the NBA knows he feels sorry for conning the Hornets. I mean Lee for Ariza, talk about a steal. Nobody wants to make a deal with us because Morey is such a boss, taking Ariza back may make him look like less of a boss and more people might be willing to deal with us again. This can only help us net Howard!!

but can we amnesty a player we traded for after 1 season of playing with us?

What is the amount of time you have to wait to amensty a traded player?

Honestly, I'd take Okafor and the 10th in a heart beat. 2 years is not that long, next year his contract will be expiring and we can trade him if need be. if not, he can be a very solid center for us. who knows, he may resign with us for cheap?

No, you can not amnesty a player you traded for.....period.

The only players you can amnesty were the ones on your roster when the CBA was signed.

Taking on Ariza and Okafor for the 10th pick seems excessive. I don't know if I would make that deal for our 16th pick.

    No, you can't do that
We can still Amnesty OUR players who were under contract before the lockout. Martin, Scola, Lowry etc.

Teams don't look for expiring contract like they did a few years ago. They used their Amnesty and the great Free Agency Market is now meh

If we're not in the running for Dwight

If we aren't going to use our cap space on an elite FA

I've got no problem "purchasing" the #10 pick by taking on Okafor

As far as cap space, if you give them Martin (whom we need to jettison anyway), the offseason cap implications are a wash.

If Oak's knees aren't shot, he'd be a rock solid partner with Camby at the 5. He's limited offensively, but he's everything you want from a blue collar type.

If they are shot, he gives you nothing on the court but still hooked you up with another young player in a good draft.

Others don't agree, but I'm more than ready to reboot this era -
clear out the pieces that no longer fit* and usher in a full crop of young guys. Develop them, dip back into the lottery one more time, and make a run at the playoffs.

    * Martin, Lowry, Scola, Dalembert (Patterson?)

    Okafor/Camby
    Motiejunas/Patterson
    Parsons/Morris
    Lee/Budinger
    Dragic

with 3 rookies off the bench or possibly breaking in to start.

10th pick may be high enough to land Perry Jones to put with Motiejunas at the 4, giving us size at the position for the first time since....OT?

If we're lucky, Kendall Marshall could still be there at #14, giving us a pure passer behind Dragic.

#16 could still land a capable backup at the swing positions (Waiters? Ross?) or a risky/project 5 like Zeller, Leonard, or Melo.

Sink or swim time, no more staying the course or waiting for a blockbuster trade that's never going to emerge.

    @Powell2daPeople

Hornets will entertain offers for 10th pick if someone also agrees to take Ariza or Okafor contracts.
