cause shaq is fat and black, and just by %, fat black ppl tend to be stupid, also by %, whites are better educated, and by chance ostertag grew up with a better family and hold better values
1. Shaq is not stupid. 2. Like someone has pointed out, it's an Ed.D, not a Ph.D. Big difference. 3. Barry is not a top school by any means, but it's a legit college. So I don't think it was "rigged" in the sense that it was a forged degree. Could they have slack the standard a bit for Shaq? That I wouldn't be surprised. 4. I am pretty sure a large part of the "research" was done by help hands. And he might need heavy editing to make the thesis/dissertation look like an academic piece. But I assume that he did pass an oral defense. So he did need to know the subject well enough.

I think people assume Shaq is stupid because of all the stupid things he's said over the years. It's not because he's black. You don't see anyone saying Battier is stupid. Not even Kobe Bryant, who didn't go to college and got a pretty pedestrian 1080 on his SAT. Incidentally, Shaq bragged (in a self-effacing way) at one point of having a 780 SAT score.
