The Celts would be morons not to do that trade. Kawhi is arguably the best two way player in the league and would be an infinitely better fit than Kyrie, whose primary strength is scoring in isolation. The Celtics style of play is more like the Spurs and we already know what Kawhi can do in that style of play.

Trade Harden to the Spurs if they take on Ryan Anderson.. then Sign Lebron...

Awwww ... this bracelet came up in the Amazon ads at the bottom. Spurs fans in mourning can go buy them.

It will make you feel better, Spurs fans.

No dude, Im a die hard Rockets. Im just speaking objectively and logically. I cant see the Celtics or Spurs wanting Lonzo though Im sure the Lakers would offer him if it meant getting Kawhi...

He's still eligible for the supermax with whatever team trades for him though.

upsurd to think KW going to LA will entice Lebron enough to go to LA over Harden and Paul. Borderline stupid.

    no.
As soon as he gets traded he can't get it.

That's why to me it looks like a negotiating tactic that it has come out before the meeting with the team.

Cp3 will get his 35% third max contract. It's a normal max.
Kawhi will get his second max contract. It can be either supermax or a simple max. The difference as sportrac said above is 80 million dollars.
The supermax is only an option if he stays with the spurs for 2 or 3 years more at least.

Thanks for the clarification! Is there a place I can read up about this? Maybe the CBA FAQ?

    This is r e a l l y bad math. It's like saying Kawhi won't get another contract again.

$80m is not really true. He would sign for only 3yrs to get his 10yr tenure, then do a 5yr 35% max (same as supermax). The differences is only about $20m for those 3yrs.

Who knows, the cap could take a huge jump in between that time, and he actually makes more money.

Wow. Never thought I'd see a star want to leave SA, times are changin'. Now hopefully the Spurs are smart about this and just trade him to the highest bidder, not the Lakers. Hard to believe a small market city won't muster up a better offer.

    No he isn't.

Supermax eligibility only follows you if you are traded in your first 4yrs (while on your original Rookie-scale contract, before extensions).
