Axe'em Jacks! Get your Sunshine Cups ready http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/college/6675424.html The "Battle of the Piney Woods" is coming to Reliant Stadium. Southland Conference rivals Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin have agreed to move their game to Reliant in 2010, two people with knowledge of the situation said Monday. A formal announcement will be made Tuesday. The rivalry is the second-oldest in Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA), dating back to 1923. The two schools will meet for the 84th time on Saturday in Nacogdoches. Sam Houston State leads the all-time series 48-33-2. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Huntsville.
Great rivalry, I'll plan on attending. Not sure it deserves Reliant but they'll get more alumni than they normally would. The question is will students make the trip?
hmm.... Lived in Nac for a year and a half, never been to a football game. Would check it out if I didn't work.
This is a stupid idea. Both stadiums usually sell out for this game and it actually makes for a pretty good environment. Having 11,000 people in a 70,000 seat stadium is just going to be depressing. We will probably go, though, since plenty of good seats will be available..... I graduated from Sam and my wife graduated from SFA (although she finally wised up and got her Masters from Sam). That's right, b****es. Eat 'em up, Beerkats.
This. I don't get this move either. It benefits no one. Granted, with as many SHSU students from the Houston area that go home on the weekends (Huntsville is a ghost town on Saturday), maybe they'll get a decent crowd. And by "decent crowd" I mean there might be a total of about 12,000 people there.
You make DREAM proud with those statements, sir. Why so much hate? C'mon, now... I would go to this just to experience more college football... if I had a little extra cash... what do the tickets cost, like $15?
