To be fair, this isn't saying one team wanted him. It's saying one coach wanted him and was overruled. No way to know if it's true or not. But if it is, my question is why Chip Kelly would ever take a job where he doesn't get to pick his QB, or why any GM would hire Chip Kelly and not give him the ability to pick his QB. Jeff Fisher? Sure. But if you're hiring Kelly, you're doing it specifically because of his system, and he needs control of the QB position there.
What makes you think this was white privilege? What if he's brilliant and turns around the franchise? Didn't people say the same nonsense about Steve Kerr getting the Warriors job as a broadcaster?
The 49ers followed the Rooney Rule, they interviewed at least two minorities for the position. Ultimately Lynch got the job because Kyle Shanahan did not know Patton or McDonough personally and has no idea how he will gel with them or how they would run the organization. Kyle Shanahan is very familiar with Lynch, he has known him for over a decade and is comfortable. Did the 49ers or Shanahan set out to hire a white GM? No, Shanahan hired someone he knows well....... and apparently Lynch went after the job, directly to Shanahan and sold himself on it.
