While the Rockets have made a lot of headway lately and are fun to watch, I cant get too serious about them actually contending until they improve substantially on their 6-12 conference record.
Maybe McHale and Adelman are underrated coaches because despite having mediocre talent and tons of injuries, they win more game than they lose.
Until just this season every backup point guard until this season was overrated on this board until they began starting or their backup got significant minutes. Lowry maybe the only one you could say is overrated but he is hampered by injuries so this season is hard to judge. Brooks is getting back to the NBA after a long stint overseas and being inactive. He is a very good scorer but it is weird for him coming off the bench and doing such for a team where they are loaded with undisciplined scorers. Even Landry dropped off while over there. Landry is far and away one of (if not ) the most successful former Rockets in the Morey era. He has been a solid scorer and energy guy for the teams he has played on. Got a decent contract from the Kings or the Hornets and was considered a steal by the Warriors who a season or two after having the fans booing the owner on at a dedication of a team legend are now one of the best teams in the Western conference. Chuck Hayes, buried in the horrible mess that is the current Sacremento Kings roster along with Aaron Brooks. What good can a defensive specialist do when the team is barely winning or in playoff contention? Well, as Rockets fans know from experience with Hayes, not much. Goran Dragic and Luis Scola as others have mentioned are doing fairly well. But they are on bad teams and without consistent help, their complementary abilities are basically going to waste without anyone else to help especially with Dragic like Lowry having a few injuries this season.
I always wonder if we had made a deep playoff run, if Morey would have still blown up the team in a push for DH.
The best team since Yao and Tmac were both healthy was: Artesticles Brooks Yao Battier Scola Landry Wafer Lowry Headed by: Rick Adelman That is clearly the best team since 2000 based on playoff success alone.
