I'm reading that the seaweed in Galveston is completely off the hook right now. Is the media over-hyping this situation? Or is the seaweed really that bad? I wanna go to the beach, but I don't want to get there and find that the beach is covered in seaweed.
Yeah it's as bad as I've ever seen. We went to Galveston SP last weekend. We found a nice spot on some clear sand to set up our chairs and stuff, but we had to walk over about 4 feet of seaweed to reach the water. And when we did get in the water, it was a constant bombardment of the stuff. Here's surfside: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=d43_1402203570
It's awesome for fishing offshore. Dorado every where. For the beach goers, the sargasm is going to be bad for the next few weeks. There were some pictures taken offshore and it actually could get worse. Eek.
Ugh! I was hoping that the media was just sensationalizing it, and that was wasn't so bad. Major bummer.
Whatever you do, don't eat it. You might be able to drench enough oil out of the seaweed to fill up your gas tank though!
tried surf fishing from the bolivar side in May on three separate occasions and you couldn't even keep a line in the surf. The stuff would wrap around your line and wash it ashore.
Vacationing in south padre, its beautiful here. Why can't Galveston be like this, our athletes stay hurt and we get the dirty beaches.
I was on West Beach Wednesday and Thursday. Yes the seaweed has been bad, but it seems to have stopped coming in as of this week. We are in a particularly disgusting period of it since the millions of shrimp and crabs in it are dead and decaying. That means a million flies and horrific smell. Down on the seawall there is no place for it to go. But since this is Clutchfans I'll clue my homies in: The City of Jamaica Beach has been dragging all night this week and our beach is pretty clean. There is some weed in the water but it's not too bad, also the water temps have warmed to very comfortable. So if you want to go, drive the extra 13 miles out to JB and you will be a lot happier.
Hmm, more complicated than just the Mississippi river dumping in. In Padre there was literally a brown and blue water divide seperating the two. Passed right over it while fishing.
Galveston has its fair share of blue water days. The less people who know about those, the better things are for us.
